student film association

exploring films and broadening horizons

Who is a part of SFA?

SFA has a core group of film students who have grown close on
film sets theyve worked on together, but Im proud to say we also
have English majors, engineers, pre-med students, some theatre
and dance kids and a foreign student or two. Its an exciting mix to
have because they all bring something different to the discussion.

Interview with the President of Student Film Association,

junior Daniel Pappas
In your own words, what is SFA?
SFA is an organization of people who love talking about, making
and watching movies that gets together to do all three.
What is your goal?
Our goal is to get people of all backgrounds to engage with us
regarding filmic content whether its movies, TV shows, YouTube
videos or ads.
What do you do?
We talk about our ongoing projects and opportunities in the area,
and we always screen one short film to end the meeting. We do
a film production every semester, so that is our ongoing project.

What are you most excited about for next year?

Personally, Im extremely excited to start working on my senior
thesis film and I know that SFA will play an integral role in that
project. I also look forward to continuing to draw an even larger
crowd at our Spring Film Festival, include more films, invite more
schools and bring back some old SFA alumni.
What is your favorite thing youve done during your
time with SFA?
My favorite thing Ive done was organize our Spring Film Festival
last year. We screened films from students at UTD, UTA, TCU
and SMU. We filled about an hour of content and an entire theatre
at the Angelika.
What does SFA bring to the SMU campus and
community?
SFA provides a unique opportunity for people to come and geek
out over a movie and to broaden their film horizons. We also are
acutely aware of free movie screenings on campus and at local
theaters and have gone to a couple of free advanced screenings
as well.
