REFLECTION

We chose Games and Sports as our unit topic. The reason why we chose this topic is that
we think our students will have more fun if the topic is according to their interests. Besides,
it will help the students to be more concentrated on the lesson. Creating a context while
using modals is more likely to increase the learners participation.
We spent most of our time thinking about utilizing media and materials of ASSURE model;
because we arranged our lesson plan according to the presentations and videos which help
the students learn in the easiest and most efficient way. It took too much time and effort to
be familiar with the Web 2.0 tools such as Weebly while copying the embed code on the
page.
Another step of assure model is analyze learners. We think that we have to analyze the
learners to be able to know the interests of them. So we prepared a survey questioning their
personality and interests in the beginning of the term. We made an observation that the
students have problems with speaking so we concentrated upon speaking activities while
arranging the lesson plan.
We determined the prerequisite skills or knowledge based on the needs of the students
which are pronunciation and grammar because they must speak fluently and accurately to
communicate properly. We tried to spare enough time for the activities. Three lesson hours
per week seemed appropriate.
In these weeks, we emphasized on modals and adjectives. We aimed to help students to
use modals in syntaxial sentences and identify the differences between them.
We chose our instructional methods, media and materials among the ones we practiced
during our CEIT 319 course. We tried to use the most effective and convenient ones for our
unit and lesson plans.
We assured a cognitivist approach for each lesson. We utilized an eclectic approach by
combining Drill Practice, Cooperative Learning, Role Play. Each lesson is teacher-student
centered. The speaking activities are conducted based on the Direct Method. In addition to
that, Humanistic Approach is applied into practice by preparing the materials based on their
interests and making conversation with them.
To introduce the topics, we used different kinds of materials Prezi, Stupeflix, and Studyblue
respectively for each week. To show the students which adjectives can be used related to
the context, we used Bubbl.us. For the brief explanations of the perfect modals, we used
Easel.ly.
The students must participate the lesson actively to be engaged in their own learning. To
facilitate this, we arranged individual and small group speaking activities. Also, as they
participate the handouts activity, they overlearn the modals because practice makes
perfect.
The evaluations are conducted by observations over the speaking tasks, the handouts and
the quiz which is in the second week. According to the students errors, we arrange the next
lesson plan. For instance, the students are making errors while using if clauses, so we decide
to concentrate on that for the following week.

We had difficulty with preparing the materials as we are just two people and had lots of
tasks to do. Despite that, we enjoyed utilizing the materials which we are interested in.
Stupeflix activity was so much more fun. We think it is very useful to do this project because
we will have to do these things in our careers.
