Tropical Rainforest
57% of all tropical rainforests are found In Latin America. 1/3
are in brazil.
The average climate type is very humid. There is lots of rain
because it is very hot. the normal temperature is 93*F.
There is a wide verity of animals ranging from the poison dart
frog to the macaw to the boa constrictor. There is also the
sloth and the spider monkey.
The lumber, agriculture, and mining are major impacts on the
tropical rainforest.

which can leap six meters from tree

be used like a hand to hang from
trees or to reach out for fruit

Temperate Deciduous Forests

temperate deciduous forests are located primarily in the
eastern half of the United States, Canada, Europe, parts of
Russia, China, and Japan.
Has four distinct seasons fall, winter, spring, summer.
Summers averaging about 70*F. Deciduous forests have
almost 14 inches of rain in the winter months and more than
18 inches of rain in the summer.
Migration and hibernation are two adaptations used by the
animals in this biome. Another adaptation some animals
have adopted is food storage.
People cut down forests for houses, ships, furniture, and
paper.

Taigas
located in the northern part of the Northern Hemisphere and is
in North America, Asia, and Europe. It stretches across Alaska,
Canada, Scandinavia, and Russia.
The taiga or boreal forest has a subarctic climate with very
large temperature range between seasons, but the long and
cold winter is the dominant feature.
Their adaptations help them stay warm, hide, and defend
themselves. In the harsh winter months, many animals have
thick coats to keep them warm.
Logging happens across much of the taiga and has many
impacts. It destroys habitat and cover for animals and also
leads to soil erosion. It also however can create useful new
open habitats for the animals to feed in.

Savannas
There are savanna's located in Africa, South America, India, and
Australia.
The savanna climate has a temperature range of 68 to 86 F (20 30 C). In the winter, it is usually about 68 to 78 F (20 - 25 C). In the
summer the temperature ranges from 78 to 86 F (25 - 30 C). In a
Savanna the temperature does not change a lot.
Animals adapt to the shortage of water and food through various ways,
including migrating and hibernating until the season is over. Grazing
animals, like gazelles and zebras, feed on grasses and often use
camouflage to protect themselves from predators when they are
roaming in the open.
Large areas of grassland have been turned into farmlands for growing
crops and for rearing cattle. Sometimes, fires are started by human
and they spread quickly through grasses and damage the soils.

Chaparrals
found in small sections of most continents, including the west
coast of the United States, the west coast of South America,
the Cape Town area of South Africa, the western tip of
Australia and the coastal areas of the Mediterranean.
mild and moist, but not rainy. During the summer it is very hot
and dry. The temperature is usually mild but it can get very
hot or nearly freezing. The temperature range is between 30
and 100 F.This biome only gets about 10-17 inches of rain
all year, and most of it comes in the winter.

about 10 - 17 inches of rain per year and most of it comes in
the winter. Because of the long period of dryness in the
summer, only plants with hard leaves can survive, such as
scrub oaks, chamiso shrubs, pines, cork and olive trees.
Mainly, humans build tourist attractions in the chaparral
biome. In fact, one of the major threats to this biome is
humans coming in and building buildings. They also come in
and build industries and factories. This affects organisms that
depend on natural forest fires to survive.

Deserts
the largest desert on Earth is the Sahara Desert in Africa.
This desert stretches over more than ten African countries. In
the United States, the largest desert is the Great Basin
Desert.
Generally, a desert is defined as an area that receives less
than 10 inches, or 25 centimeters, of precipitation a year. The
temperature of a desert is also a defining and unique
characteristic. Most deserts are warmer during the day than
they are at night, and the difference in temperature is quite
drastic. The average daytime temperature is 100F, while at
night the average temperature is 25F.

Some of the most common adaptations include storing water in
the leaves or stems, having few leaves or waxy coverings on the
leaves to reduce water loss, and having long tap roots that can
penetrate the deep water table. Some plants even go dormant
for over half the year and only grow when water becomes
available.
off roading, when we run our vehicles over the desert soil and
carve the tracks into the soil that will scar the land for many
years. These tracks can kill off vegitation in the desert. When the
vegitation is hurt so are the animals. Animals that rely on the
sandy desert floor for camouflage can also be harmed greatly.

Tundras
Located in Alaska, Northern Canada, edges of Greenland, Northern
Scandinavia, northern Siberia, and Russia.
The winter temperatures average about -30 F throughout most of
the true Arctic including the North Pole. The coldest weather occurs
in northeastern Siberia. There January temperatures average -40 F,
and have reached -93 F.
Migration and hibernation are examples of behavioral adaptations
used by animals in the Arctic tundra.
Human activity has seen a dramatic change in the arctic due to
climate change. Garbage and other waste not to mention the
impact of the oil and gas industry have left some parts of the Arctic
polluted.
