For this essay, you will propose and design a digital badge that would be useful for recognizing and making visible
learning that takes place in the ENGL 118 classroom at DVC. Your proposal should cite and make use of the
discussions on digital literacy from one of our readings in this section including Hacking Education, the CCCC
Position Statement on Teaching, Learning, and Assessing Writing in Digital Environments, or Doug Belshaws
blog and Web Literacy Map.
To complete this essay successfully, you will need to do the following:
(1) Describe the importance of developing your chosen digital literacy skill set for ENGL 118 at DVC
(2) Explain how a badge in that chosen skill set will provide visible milestones, support various types of
community participation, and signal achievement in ENGL 118
(3) Detail the specific skills, competencies, and learning activities the badge will mark or represent
(4) Develop a Badge
(5) Describe your badge design and why you think it speaks to, represents, or reflects the community of
learners in the ENGL 118 classroom at DVC.
(6) Describe any concerns, uncertainties, potential problems, or unanswered questions about your digital skill
set/badge.
