ULANs participation in Dental and Medical Mission and Drafting

of Environmental Code

Last July 31, 2015, University of Mindanao Legal Advocacy Network (ULAN) participated in a
dental and medical mission and giving of school supplies conducted in Purok 11, Talomo
Proper, Talomo District, Davao city. The organization donated school supplies to the children of
the community.
The said event was organized by Global Impact Foundation in cooperation with the Rotary
Club, R Jopson Dental Clinic, Dermatology and Hair Transplant Clinic, Tebow Cure Hospital,
City Health doctors and volunteers, Maharlika Foundation, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, PNP and
other organizations. Then, Ms. Hope Fernandez, Advocacy Team Leader of Global Impact
Philippines Foundation, talked about human trafficking awareness and ways on how to prevent
it to the residents of the community. Global Impact Philippines Foundation is an organization
that campaign to fight human trafficking.
Moreover, the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Environment and Natural Resources
invited ULAN to lend its expertise in the 3rd Technical Working Group (TWG) Meeting for the
crafting of the Environment Code of Davao City held at DENR Compound, Lanang, Davao City
last August 6, 2015. Councilor Leonardo R. Avila III is the chairperson of the said committee.
Various offices participated to update the draft of the Environmental Code. Expert Agencies
contributed in planning and arranging the most appropriate provisions within each chapter.
The offices that participated in the meeting are the following: Interface Development
Interventions (IDIS), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Office of
Councilor Avila, Chamber of Commerce, Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panligal (SALIGAN),
Office of Councilor Abella, National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), Department of
Health (DOH), Department of Energy (DOE) and many more.
