Task

Design, make and appraise an artefact which could be used as a


teaching aid. It must include at least two recycled items and have a
moving part.

Preparation

Construct a teaching aid which could be used to assist children to


understand some specific educational concept or concepts (for example,
in Maths, SOSE or Science). The aid should include at least one moving
part and be appropriate for the age group which you intend to teach
Discuss your ideas and progress with your mentor teacher and lecturer
Document the process of brainstorming ideas, deciding on your project,
stages of construction (including frustrations and changes of direction).
Write a report of the process (approx 1000 words). Prepare a pictorial
PowerPoint presentation of the construction process.

The Design, Make, Appraise process is clearly outlined in the report and PPT.
Including, for example, process, research, Design Brief, sketches/plans, materials
selection, skills and tools use, linkage to the curriculum and other literature, personal
reflection and learning, discussion of ideas on LearnLine (brief ref in report), critique
of process, commentary on the learning pedagogy of the aid produced, commentary on
the DMA as a personal learning tool and also as a pedagogic approach for children in
school, reflections/comments as a teacher.

The pictorial representation in the PPT sufficiently details the construction and
operation/use.
Including for example: well-designed PPT, quality of photographs, compressed
photographs, clear & brief dot points/labels, showing you as the 'constructor', adequate
details but not more than required, is durable and child proof.

At least two recycled items are used and it incorporates reasonable complexity.
Including creativity of design, uniqueness, creativity of materials use, modification of
materials, has required significant time and level of difficulty, has 'professional'
look/quality, has resulted in stretching your comfort zone and skill base

Suitable for age group designed for and achieves desired learning goal.
Including aspects of interest/motivation, appropriate and justified pedagogical
underpinning (supported) as learning aid, has some indication of how it will be used,
indications of appropriate alternative educational uses, links to several CFs

Overall presentation and English expression is of a professional standard.


Including, well written, correct referencing, appropriately organized, appropriate
headings, well laid out, files well labeled, correctly submitted (two files in correctly
named folder which is zipped), report word length within -10% to + 20%
