STATEMENT 1: When people move to a new country, they should adapt to the ways of
that country. They should forget the traditions of their ethnic group.
STATEMENT 2: Cultural differences strengthen Canadian unity. Our differences allow
us to have many viewpoints on key issues. Besides, people can take pride in their ethnic
background and in being Canadian.
STATEMENT 3: The English and French are not the only groups who have built Canada.
Other immigrant groups have helped as well. Let us encourage people to preserve their
heritage.
STATEMENT 4: We cannot function with a dozen different languages and cultures. The
solution is one basic English-speaking culture. If groups want to preserve their culture,
let them do so in special areas of the country.
