Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering
One of the Oldest and Broadest Engineering disciplines
Applies the principles of physics and material science for analysis, design,
manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems

Education
Undergraduate :
Bachelors degree (B.S, B.Eng, B. Tech etc.)- 4 to 6 Years
In US most undergraduate program are accredited by ABET (Accreditation
Board for Engineering and Technology)
Graduate:
Masters degree (M.S, M.E, M. Tech etc.) 2 years
With or without research component
Doctoral degree (PhD)- 4 to 6 years
Strong research component

License
Professional Engineer (certification)
To become a licensed Professional Engineer:
Pass the comprehensive FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam
Work as an Engineering Intern (EI) or Engineering-in-Training (EIT)
Pass the PE (Practicing engineer or Professional Engineer) exam

Salary and Workforce statistics

15% of the total engineers employed in US are Mechanical Engineers
Average starting salary with Bachelors degree : $ 58,000
Median annual income of Mechanical Engineers : $ 75,000
