collapse of a giant molecular cloud.
The vast majority of the system's
mass is in the Sun, with most of the
remaining mass contained in Jupiter.
The four smaller inner planets,
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars,
also called the terrestrial planets, are
primarily composed of rock and
metal. The four outer planets, called
the gas giants, are substantially
more massive than the terrestrials.

JUPITER

INTRODUCTION

Jupiter is the fifth planet

The sun and is by far the largest planet with dozens of moons
and an enormous magnetic field that forms its own miniature
orbiting system.

The composition of Jupiter is somewhat that of a star but it did

not grow big enough to ignite under the heat pressures of its
own gravity.

The planet is in a constant state of storms and the Great Red

Spot has been raging for hundreds of years.

The Greeks named the largest planet Zeus. However the

Romans named it Jupiter.

He was the most important deity in both pantheons.

EXPLANATION

Jupiter is classified as a gas giant along with

Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun and the

largest planet in the solar system.

Jupiter has 67 natural satellites.

51 moons are less than 10 kilometers in

diameter and have only been discovered since
1975.
