more than half from France, Germany
and the UK.
Mainly (70%) go to the coastal areas
and Mediterranean islands.

YES ecotourism is very popular
Not to be confused with sustainable
tourism (although they overlap),
ecotourism seeks interaction between
tourists and locals and promotes
environmental quality and preserving local
cultures.

Increasing tourism is a major way for
emerging economies/ peripheral countries
to improve their development
LEDCs share of world tourism has increased
by a huge rate, particularly in Asia
Despite the fears of increased tourism (as
seen in Spain, and think of the globalisation
unit) it is vitally important to many
countries.
