PALM OIL BIOMASS

Oil palm generated the large amount of biomass due to the demand
in palm oil globally. The oil palm solid biomass consists of 48% fronds,
15% trunks, 8% fibers, 7% empty fruit bunches (EFB) and 4% palm kernel
shell besides other biomasses that are obtained from the processing of
palm oil such as sludge, palm cake and palm oil mill effluent (POME).
These by-products can be converted to value-added products or energy to
generate additional profit for the Palm Oil Industry.
Figure 1 shows the solid waste biomass dry weight generated from oil palm whereas
Table 1 show the typical uses of oil plam solid biomass.
