My Immigration Story
My dad was born in Ciudad Mante which is a city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas
which is his source country. When he was about 9 months old, he moved to his destination
country which is Houston, Texas. He became a citizen of the United States whenever he moved
to Texas with his family. He took apart of international migration since he moved from Mexico
to the United States permanently. My mom was born in Brownsville, Texas and when she was
about 4 years old, she moved here to Houston, Texas. They both took apart of voluntary
migration and were immigrants. One of the pull factors of my mom moving from Brownsville to
Houston is because her family was looking for better job opportunities and the urbanization was
better in Houston. Both of my parents were finally in Houston so that is how they met each other
and got married and had me and my younger sister. As you can see, both of my parents took
apart of step migration.
When my parents had met, they were living in my grandmas garage apartment near the
Heights and my mom was pregnant with me so it was now the three of us. When I was a year
old, my mom was pregnant again and had my younger sister. It was now the 4 of us in the tiny
apartment so that was a push factor for us to leave the apartment. We then rented a house in the
Greenspoint area of Houston for about a year while my parents look at houses to buy. My parents
found a house that all of us could live in the Heights of Houston, Texas. The four of us went
through intraregional migration since we stayed in the same region. The four of us still live in the
same house today. The location of our house is very convenient. We are not far from downtown
at all since my dad works in downtown. We have a lot of schools in our area. We still have a lot
of family very close to us (and I mean VERY close because my 3 aunts and my grandpa live all
on the same street as me). According to Ravensteins Law of Migration most migrants move only
a short distance which applies to me and my family because I have lived in Houston all my life
and we have migrated around different parts of Houston which is only a short distance. Another
law is economic factors are the main cause of migration. Which also applies to my family
because both of my parents came to Texas looking for better job opportunities and a better life.
My immigration does not include a major migration stream because people from Mexico
mainly just move to the United States because they know it is better over here. Theres better
land, job opportunities, rights, etc.
