Edition PetersAls Material zu den folgenden
Etiiden dienen ste Heft
ausschlieBlich die Fiinf-Fingertibun-
gen mit stillstehender Hand. Das
aweite Heft enthilt Ubungen mit
fortriickender Hand, behsndelt also
das Nachsiehen, den Wechsel der
Finger auf ciner und dersolben
Tasto, wie don Unter- und Uboreatz
nach und mit dem zweiten und éritten
Finger einschlieBlich der Tonleiter
im Umfang oiner Oktay
Um stets eine rubige Handhaltung
und richtige Fingerstellung bewah-
ren zu kénnen, ist es notwendig, das
Studium einer jeden Etiide in sehr
langsamem Zeitmal zu beginnen, das
dann bei cunchmender Sicherheit
mehr und mehr gesteigert werden
mul. Es fehlt daher auch die Tempo-,
ebenso die dynamische Bezeichnung.
Hinsichtlich letzterer halte man den
Schiler sorgfiltigst an, stets seine
volle Finger kraft (also one Hil-
fe der Hand) zu verwenden
Bei den harmonischen Etiidon Nr. i,
12, 15, 16, 19 und 20 ist es ratsam,
wihrend der Dauer eines Akkords
dic 2u ihm gohérendon Téne fort-
Klingen tu lassen, indem man die
Finger auf den entsprechenden Tasten
liegen 1é8t. Man erzielt hierdurch
eine ruhigere Handhaltung, gréQere
Selbstiindigkeit der Finger und einen
gréBeren Ton. Bei den iibrigen, in
stufenweisen Tonfolgen gehaltenen
iibungen miissen die Finger solbst-
verstindlich prizis von der Teste
gehoben werden, obne die Bindung
der cundchst auf einander folgenden
Téne zu getihrden.

The five-finger exercises with
the hand held stationary serve asciu-
sively as material for the first part
of the following: Studies, The second
part contains exercises with the
hand moving; teaches about raising
the hand, change of finger on the
same note, as also turning under and
over with the escond and third fin-
ers, including the scale in the com-
pass of one cetave.
In onder to learn to keep the
hand always perfectly quiet and to
Learn the correct manner of placing
the fingers, the exercises must be
practised at first very slowly,
the pace only to be increased as
there ts increasing certainly in the
playing. The tempo therefore is stilt
wanting; as well as the dynamic signs
(te, marks for loudness and softness
@ 0). With regard to these the pupil
should be most carefully taught
always fo employ the utmost strength
of the fingers, but without any
Kelp foom the hand.
In the harmonic Studies Nos. 11,
12,45,46,19 and 20 it is recommended
during the duration of one chord to
det the different notes belonging to
Sf continue to sound, by allowing the
Singers to He on the corresponding
Keys. By this means a perfectly quiet
manner of holding the hand ts pro-
duced, a greater independence of the
Singers and a better tone. In the
remaining exercises which consist of
soale passages the fingers must be
raised with absolute precision from
the keys, without endangering the
| seine of the nat note thick foltows.
