Whom It May Concern,

I am contacting you to voice my concerns on the welfare and the use of exotic
animals.

We are seeking your assistance to introduce a bill to ban the use of exotic animals
for entertainment purposes in Ontario.

This bill would be for all performing animals ie circuses, animals used in
commercials holidays/films/parades, shows at zoos etc. Our goal is to eliminate
these animals being trained to entertain us.

There is compelling evidence that captive animals used for entertainment suffer
both psychological and physical stress caused by their environments and constant
performances as well as premature death. Captive animals regularly exhibit
repetitive behaviors such as swaying, head bobbing, swinging, pacing, and biting,
over grooming and aggression, all signs of stress and lack of stimulation.

Traveling circuses cannot meet the physical, psychological or behavioral needs of
wild animals, which suffer severe confinement, social deprivation, and long periods
of time in transporters, brutal control methods and physical violence.

Public health and safety; Keeping large, dangerous, stressed wild animals in close
proximity to the public in lightweight, temporary enclosures have proven
disastrous. Workers and public have been killed and maimed; lions, tigers and
elephants have all escaped. Around 12% of Asian and 2% of African elephants in
North America have tuberculosis, which is transmissible to humans.

Training methods are questionable for these animals. One currently in the media is
the recent footage released from Peta at the Bowmanville zoo. The owner of the zoo
was caught on camera whipping a tiger during a training session to make him
perform. We must ask, how does one train a bear to ride a bike or hula-hoop?

Please help us be the voice for those who cannot speak. We currently have a hard
copy petition; we would like to proceed to an on-line petition with your guidance.
We are educating the public via social media and flyers being delivered directly to
homes with petitions.
