Who would need fluid restriction?


} Cardiac event such as heart failure
} Edema or swelling of hands, feet, etc.
} Renal Disease (kidneys can no longer remove
excess fluid)
}

Anything that is liquid at room temperature

Beverages
} Ice
} Sherbet
} Gelatin
} Soup
}

Foods that naturally contain water:


} Fruits
} Vegetables
} Meat
} Bread
}

30 mL (cc) = 1 oz fluid
} 120 mL = 4 oz
} 240 mL = 8 oz
}

2,000 mL (2 L) restriction
} 1,000 mL (1 L) restriction
}

Divided by 5 (3 meals + 2 snacks)


= 200 mL fluid per meal/snack

Mr. J is on a fluid restricted diet. For dinner


he orders chicken noodle soup, side salad,
roll with butter, apple, gelatin, and a shake.
Which items count towards his daily fluid?
