Assumption
Names are hard for everyone to remember,
but Steve will be meeting many people in
short periods of time, which means more
names to remember.
Interview
The interviewee expressed that it would
help him if he can connect with people that
work at the companies that he is applying to
so that he can learn more about the job and
the company. This way, he can have a better
understanding of what the company is
looking for, what it would be like to work at
the company, and possibly have someone
refer him for the job.
Assumption
The built in contact list in phones, as well as
on social networking websites, dont have
features to organize contacts into specified
groups. I assume someone who is
networking in order to find job

opportunities, would find it useful to have a

feature that organized their contacts by
certain companies, or be able to separate
work-related contacts from their purely
social contacts.
Steve will want this product to connect Interview
him with recruiters.
The interviewee expressed he wanted to
meet anyone who would be able to help him
find a corporate job.

Assumption
I assume that would also include recruiters
as they are looking for people to apply to
their company.

Assumption from my own experience -
the exchange of contacts easier.
exchanging contact information is often a
more troublesome experience than it should
be. Typing in a phone number, spelling the
name correctly, and then calling them so that
they receive the phone number depending
on the context takes too long. If you forget
the persons name, then without a picture,
you dont know who the contact is in your
phone. It is an awkward request to take a
picture of someones face after you just meet
them and exchange numbers.

If Im meeting many people all at once, then
saving time, and the assurance of
remembering names is even more
important.

Scenario Steve the Young Professional

Steve begins his day by going to his usual caf. He opens up his laptop, and checks
his emails. He receives an email from Technology Corp., a company that he applied to the
past week. The email tells him that he didnt get the job. He opens up the application on his
phone, and contacts Jim, the Technology Corp. recruiter that he met at an information
session his senior year. Steve asks Jim for feedback about his interview, and the ways he
could improve his resume. He thanks Jim for all of his help, and Jim says he will keep
Steves resume in the system in case future positions open up. Steve then contacts Frank,
an experienced Front-End Developer for Google that he shadowed over the summer. He
goes over the technical questions he was asked during the interview with Frank, and asks
him for advice on future interviews. Afterwards, he feels more confident and motivated to
keep applying.

Steve heads to a career fair being held at his alma mater. When he arrives, the entire
venue is packed with hundreds of students and recruiters from various tech companies all
along the room. As he introduces himself to the various recruiters, he gives each recruiter a
handshake, and his phone instantly vibrates notifying him he received their contact. He
notices a group of recent graduates who also seem to be applying for entry-level software
development positions. Steve introduces himself to them, and asks them if they would want
to prepare for interviews and apply for jobs together. He shakes their hands, and his phone
notifies him that hes received their contacts.

After meeting twenty different recruiters, and a group of fellow aspiring
professionals, Steve is exhausted, and the whole experience feels like a blur. He takes 5
minutes to open the application and go through his phone to refresh his memory on all the
people he just met. As hes going the contacts, he takes another couple minutes to separate
the recruiters from his new friends into different groups. When he gets back home to his
laptop computer. He goes through the recruiters, and sends each of them a follow-up email.
He then messages his new friends, and arranges a time to prepare and work through job
applications together. As he scrolls through the many contacts from recruiters and friends,
Steve feels hopeful about his future career.

Scenario Joe the International Student

It is Joes first week of school at the University of Washington. When he moves into
his dorm, he meets his roommates Peter and Harvey for the first time. He introduces
himself as Joe, an American name he gave himself that sounds similar to his Chinese
name. He shakes their hands, and his phone instantly vibrates to notify him that he has
received their contacts. After his roommates introduce themselves, Joe being unfamiliar
with their names, instantly forgets them, and in order to avoid awkwardness just nods and
smiles. His roommates both have blonde hair and blue eyes, and are about 6 feet tall. On
top of forgetting their names, Joe is having a hard time knowing who is who. At this point,
Joe feels frustrated, and the reality of living in a new country is starting to take its toll. Joe
opens up the application on his phone and takes a few minutes to look at their profiles. He
then begins to match their faces to their names. Joe tries to ask Harvey for some help with
his luggage, but he has a hard time pronouncing Harveys name. He opens the app, and
listens to the pronunciation a few times before asking Harvey for help.

When Joe walks up to Red Square, he sees the Chinese Student Association tabling
and giving out flyers. He walks up to the table and meets the officers of the RSO. He shakes
their hands, and his phone instantly notifies him that hes received their contacts. When he
gets to class, the professor makes everyone do an icebreaker to get to know the fellow
people sitting at each table. Joe introduces himself to his fellow classmates at his table, and
shakes their hands to receive their contacts. As each of his tablemates proceed to say one
interesting thing about themselves, Joe opens up the application, and takes a minute to add
the factoids to their profiles.

When he gets back to his dorm room, he takes a few minutes to scroll through the
new contacts on his phone. He then organizes his contacts into different groups: his
roommates, his classmates, and the Chinese Student Association officers. The new culture,
the new language, and the many unfamiliar names are starting to exhaust Joe, and he feels
home sick. He then goes and attends the first Chinese Student Association meeting. There
he sees the familiar faces he met earlier in the day, and meets a group of fellow
international students. For the first time that day, Joe feels comfortable in his social setting.
When the meeting ends, Joe shakes hands to exchange contacts, and heads back to his
dorm. As Joe opens up the application, and takes a few minutes to go through and place his
new CSA friends into their respective group, Joe starts to feel more at ease about his move
to the United States, and is glad to have this new source of social support.
