Support Services Update

January, like most months, has been a very busy one for the Learning
Support Services team. We are particularly happy to welcome Nicholas
Vienneau to our team as our interim Experiential Learning Consultant. We
are also pleased to announce that Nikki Krocker will be our new
Intermediate Curriculum Consultant. Nikki will assume her new duties
fulltime in June 2016 until then she is very busy supporting our Aspen
Implementation. Below you find a few highlights of major projects we are
working on.

Curriculum: Recently several consultants and teachers have returned from
the BC Ministry where they are continuing to collaborate in writing and
refining the new BC K-12 curriculum. We are also busy with the Yukon
Foundation Skills Assessments of which two Yukon teachers are currently
working with the BC Ministry to review and re-write. We value our
partnership with the BC Ministry and we are very proud of the great
contributions our educators are providing.

TAL: Tal has been in overdrive since June of last year when our Aspen
Implementation Plan went into action. This has been huge task that has
demanded patience, persistence and understanding from all us whether
here at the Department or in our schools. We are grateful to our school-
based staff for the support you provided us. While Aspen implementation
continues we are working hard to provide support in all other areas.

ITSS: Our ITSS team is often behind the scenes working hard for us.
Sometimes we do not know they are there until we desperately need
them and this year we have needed them more the ever. The New FHC
School features several technologies and ITSS is always working hard to
optimize student and teacher access to technology. In partnership with
TAL we are also please to have completed our first distribution of teacher
one-to-one devices. We now preparing for our second intake in February
2016. More information will posted in FirstClass and on our website in the
coming weeks.
