Justine Sawyer Professional Portfolio July 2015- December 2015

This year I am teaching three sections of Drawing and Painting 2 students, 1


mixed section of Drawing and Painting 3 students and AP Studio Art, 1
independent study AP student and 1 full section of AP Studio Art students
stacked with 3 Portfolio Development students at historic East High School in
Denver, Colorado.
December 2015: Mrs. Sawyer passes components one and two of the National Board
Certification process
November 2015: Presenter at the Colorado Art Education Association: "It's Youth Art Month
All Year Long" advocacy and Youth Art Month 2016 flag contest kick-off. Implemented
annual gallery of level winners of YAM artwork to be displayed at CAEA fall conference.
Personal work auctioned off to raise scholarship money

November 2015: Submitted 24 student artworks to the Teen Art Show at the Museum of
Contemporary Art. Reception held November 6.
October 2015: Drawing/Painting 3 and AP Studio students creating observational still life
drawings in the gallery at East

October 2015: Hosted guest Artist, Julie Puma from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and
Design in our classroom
October 2015: Field Trip to the Denver Art Museum for upper level drawing and painting
students in conjunction with design and photography students.
October 2015: Personal artwork showcased in the gallery show "Circular Exploration" at the
Colorado Art Institute, Denver (show to travel throughout the year to gallery spaces in
Breckenridge, Colorado Springs, and Alamosa)

September 2015: Installation of the latest additions to the East High permanent gallery
collection. This work can be immediately seen when you enter East High School.

August 2015: Moved into and renovated room 125 creating an "art wing" of 3 rooms plus the
common gallery space.
Welcomed 3 sections of Drawing and Painting 2 students, 1 mixed section of Drawing and
Painting 3 students and AP Studio Art, and 1 full section of AP Studio Art students stacked
with 3 Portfolio Development students.
July 2015: Submitted national report to the Center For Art Education on behalf of the state of
Colorado as the statewide Youth Art Month Coordinator
July 2015: Presented "Linear Family Tree Sculptures" lesson at RAFT Colorado to educators at
professional development workshop

July 2015: Attended Advanced Placement advanced level course, Cherry Creek High
School. New lesson samples I created pictured below.

July 2015: Applied for and received Janus Funds grant to purchase artwork to be part of a
permanent display at the 2015 Cherry Creek Arts Festival. Anyana Frazier, Maya Ramirez,
Molly Brogden, Isabelle Laursen and Mrs. Sawyer attend the festival and made selections of
the artwork to be given to East High School.
