KIPRONO MICHAEL KIPRUTO - B66/1016/2014

What has the country/city done to address the issue of traffic congestion?
1. The city of Nairobi has introduced multiple CCTVs and traffic lights. This has
highly assisted to ensure easy flow of traffic around highways and
roundabouts. These installations have allowed fair movement of traffic during
peak and off-peak hours.
2. Kenya has developed and are developing better road networks. This is
evident through the increased number of highways, bridges and access roads
being built. The roads are being expanded easing traffic.
3. Nairobi County has introduced more pedestrian passageways. The use of
flyovers and tunnels has reduced the traffic go-slow due to pedestrians
crisscrossing the roads.
4. It has introduced specific bus terminals and stops around the town, also
specifying the routes that PSVs are to use. This has halted the unnecessary
go-slow in parts of the CBD.
5. It has attempted to reduce the number of vehicles into the city by
encouraging the use of public transportation.
6. The Nairobi County has increased the parking fees. This is to discourage the
number of vehicles being parked in the citys streets and also discourage the
number of vehicles entering the CBD in general.
