Contextual Factors/ Learner Characteristics:
The Lesson
1. Introduction (include time allotment)
Getting attention
- Students will go to the locker room and change into their PE clothes. (5 minutes)
- Student will partner up and continue playing doubles badminton that we learned in the
previous class period. (15 minutes)
After playing doubles, I will have everyone gather around one net.
I will explain the different variations we will play and I will demonstrate with three other
students. (10 minutes)
Badminton can be played in many different ways other than the traditional way. Students can
be creative and think of their own variations to implement. (2 minutes)
I will explain that todays objectives are to play different variations, elevate heart rate, and
reach 2,000 steps on their pedometers while playing badminton. (2 minutes)
Materials Needed: badminton nets, shuttlecocks, and racquets, cones, speedminton racquets and speeders, computer
and projector for video.
Contextual Factors/ Learner Characteristics:
The Lesson
1. Introduction (include time allotment)
Getting attention
- Students will go to the locker room and change into their PE clothes. (5 minutes)
Students will gather around the computer and watch a video on how to score speedminton and
the proper rules, and a video showing the multiple surfaces it can be played on. (5 minutes)
Relating to past experience and/or knowledge
- We will discuss how badminton and speedminton are related and the similar skills needed to
play each.
- Show a video of high level speedminton.
Speedminton can be played anywhere (sand, snow, grass, concrete). It is similar to badminton
but it does not have a net. The racquets are a bit bigger and the speeders are heavier that
shuttlecocks. (2 minutes)
I will explain that todays objectives are to learn the basis of speedminton, elevate heart rate,
and reach 2,000 steps on pedometers. (2 minutes)
Technology Integration: Projector/computer for instructional and demonstrational video, pedometers, heart rate
monitors
Assessments Used: students will be assessed on if they reach their 2,000 step goal and if they elevated their heart
rates while playing. They will also be asses on court diagrams and terminology of speedminton and badminton.
Differentiated Instruction:
- Court lines may vary depending on how hard a student is able to hit the shuttlecock.
- Scoring does not need to be official because I might have students swap sides to make the
game more even and so the game doesnt get too competitive.
Resources: if students lost their study guides I will provide another copy for them.
