Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard:
At Anderson Elementary, we use a PBIS chip chart. With the behavior clip chart, the students are able to move their clip
up and down based on positive and negative behavior. In my classroom, I tie Bondurants BEST tickets into the clip
chart. The students receive BEST tickets for participation, showing Bondurants BEST, and showing good character. As
the students receive BEST tickets, they can move their clip up the chart. If they are not showing Bondurants BEST, they
may be asked to clip down as a reminder that they are not meeting our expectations. Even if students have to move their
clip down, they are able to earn BEST tickets for good behavior to move their clip back up.
Reflection on artifact:
This is the districts second year with the behavior clip chart. I struggled last year to work with both the clip chart and
BEST tickets individually. Our fourth grade team talked about this struggle and many of us decided to tie our BEST
tickets with the clip chart. Each day the students begin on ready to learn. Each time a student earns two BEST tickets,
they may move their clip up to good choices. When they earn another two BEST tickets they may move their clip up to
super students. When a student ends their day on super student, they get a sticker on their clip. Each time the students
earn five starts, they get to have an extra recess with the principals.
I have found that tying the BEST tickets and the clip chart together has been very successful in my classroom. My
students are excited to get BEST tickets to move their clip up. I have added a rewards list that the students can earn upon
earning BEST tickets. I think this is what motivates them the most. They love being able to eat in the classroom, get a
homework pass, or earn extra computer time. I will continue using this strategy as long as it works for myself and my
students.
