Hoslers Headlines
As we are well into the second semester here at
Heartland, things have
been quite eventful. For
instance, as you read the
Heartbeat this quarter, you
will see that our students have been busy academically in the classroom and competitively
on the basketball courts. Many students participated in the ACSI Spelling Bee and our high
schoolers are involved in a weekly mentoring
book study. In addition, our alumni are having
life-changing experiences while traveling
around the world.
One of our seniors, Jacquelyn Chapman received an honor this fall as WYTV Student Athlete of the Week. Jacquelyn is an example of
the many diligent, well-rounded students at
Heartland. The vision statement of HCS states,
"The vision of Heartland Christian School is to
develop graduates who are Biblicallygrounded, academically-qualified and thoroughly-equipped to fulfill Christ's calling upon
their lives by providing a unified team that facilitates a comprehensive program of excellence within a nurturing environment." As you
browse the Heartbeat, our hope is that you
will see this vision exhibited in a variety of
ways.

Making A Connection
According to the Oxford Dictionary, CONNECT is a verb meaning
bring together or into contact so that a real or notional link is established. While that is true, here at Heartland Christian School CONNECT means all that and so
much more for its high
school students and staff.
This year for a first time,
small groups, namely CONNECT GROUPS, consisting of
approximately four high
school students and one
staff member have been
formed and meet weekly to
encourage one another in their walk with God. In addition to the
student groups, a group of HCS mothers, grandmothers and friends
has been meeting this year, as well. During their time together, each
group is reading and discussing Mark Halls book entitled Thrive. In
this book, Mark who is the lead singer for Casting Crowns, relates his
own experiences as a follower of Christ and challenges the reader to
do more than just survive. To quote Mark Hall, God didnt put you
and me here just so we can survive through hard times. He put us
here to thrive, to dig deep and reach out.
Using the illustration of a tree planted by the water that is spoken of
in Psalm 1, the first half of the book is devoted to helping the student dig deep roots as they cultivate their relationship with Jesus
and understand more who God is and who we are in Him. The second half of the book which the groups begin at the end of January
focuses on reaching out to others to make God known.
-Mrs. Tamra McCoy, Heartland Guidance Counselor/Teacher
The Third Grade Boys Basketball team has been focusing on the
disciplines it takes to be a true basketball player- dribbling, passing,
and shooting along with the disciplines a follower of Christ displaysprayer, Bible reading, fasting, and serving. HCS dad, Mr. Matt Aikens,
my assistant coach and I have seen growth in both areas. The team
won its first game on January 9th displaying those disciplines and they
continue to work hard and become a close team that supports each
other. Our hope and prayer is that these boys grow to love God and
glorify Him in all they do including basketball.
-Mr. Jason Norbo, 3rd Grade Boys Head Coach
This year, a Little Lady Lions team has been formed with both third and
fourth graders coming together to compete. The teams look forward to
their games which are held most Saturdays through the West Branch
Warriors League. Parent, Mr. John Lightly, has been assisting me in practice and at the games each weekend. The ladies have been playing with
all heart. Its been such fun watching them grow and develop in their
skills since the beginning when we first started out. I look forward to
continuing to work with them and see them put their skills to the test on
the court!

DAWN LARICCIA
Shalom, HCS! My name is Dawn LaRiccia and I graduated from Heartland in 2011.
I have been so blessed during my time in college to visit different places around
the world, such as India, China, and Jamaica. But my most recent visit was to a
place that many of you may have read about this morning in Scripture: Israel. I
went with a group called Covenant Journey, who invites college students to go on
an affordable tour throughout Israel for 10 days. The group consisted of about 50
other college students from colleges all across the nation. We visited many sites
throughout our time there, such as the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, the Dead Sea,
the Mount of Beatitudes, Caiaphas House, the Via Delarosa- where Jesus was
crucified, the Garden Tomb, and many more places. The best way that I can describe this trip is if you can imagine going to your best friends house for the first
time, where you are able to see the places your best friend talked about, go on
the adventures that your best friend went on, and walk through what your best
friend walked through while here on earth. As you can imagine, your relationship
with your best friend will never be the same after this visit. I wish I could sit
down for coffee with you and share story after story of what I was able to see
and learn, but I will leave you with this thought: everything that Jesus did was
intentional. From the places He went to, to the miracles that He performed, the
people He talked to, everything was meaningful. I encourage you to take a trip
that will impact the rest of your life and go to Israel, but if life situations prevent you from doing so at the moment, I encourage you to study and learn more of Jesus and the context of which He did His ministry. Lets
strive to know Him, from both the Old and New Testament. In order to make Him known, we first must know
Him. Start today, then tomorrow, and dont stop. May we never stop knowing the One who knows us!

On Stage
On Friday, April 22nd & Saturday, April 23rd at 7 p.m., the Heartland
High School Players will present the popular:
PTF Corner
Many exciting things have been happening with our Parent Teacher Fellowship. This past fall was busy with
the Fall Mum Sale, Christmas Shop,
Staff Christmas Dinner, regular treats
for staff/students, and a Conference
Dinner.
PTF has benefitted tremendously
through the Box Tops for Education
program. This falls collection resulted in the school receiving a check
for over $1,110! Please continue to
clip the $.10 box tops off your items.
They can be brought into our office or
even mailed! Remember: Your trash
is our treasure!
Recently, the PTF sponsored a Dip n
Draw special event for a Ladies Night
Out! There were over 30 ladies who
participated as they painted a snowman picture and even had a few minutes to dip a few goodies in chocolate! A fun time was had by all!

Calling All Legos and Tinker Toys Looking for a New Home
This school year, Heartland Christian School was pleased to expand the use of technology in our classrooms. Part of the technology experience for our students is the introduction of LittleBits. LittleBits is a
library of electronic modules for learning and inventing. As the students are building LittleBit projects,
they are using their creativity to include Legos and Tinker Toys in their designs. We would like to offer
your unused Legos and Tinker Toys a new home in our Computer Lab where they will be loved, used, and
enjoyed by children of all ages! A collection tote is located in the school office for any Lego or Tinker Toy
donation. Thank you for encouraging our students in this way.

HCS Goals
Heartland uses traditional timetested educational techniques,
combined with strong fundamental
Christian values, to provide a
balanced education, which will
provide the greatest benefit for
our students. This balanced
approach enhances each aspect
and when combined with a strong
emphasis on character development will produce a well-rounded
student, who is able to go out into
the world to be a leader and an
influencer in his/her world.
