Paul J. Merrill (BS 08) has served as a flight nurse for six years in the United States Air Force
and recently began a new assignment at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He
presented a U.S. Flag to the college that was flown aboard a Boeing C-17 over hostile territory
during an aeromedical evacuation mission to remove seven sick and wounded American service

Ruth Jones Hillam (BS 66) is organizing a 50-year reunion for her nursing
class. The event is Saturday, June 18, on the BYU campus. The graduating
class of 1975 had a 40-year reunion last October in Salt Lake City; they
enjoyed seeing 18 of their classmates and shared stories and photos of their
time together in the nursing program.
Penny C. Weismuller (BS 67) is the director of the Southern California DNP Consortium at
California State University, Fullertons School of Nursing; she has served as an associate
professor there since 2004.
Janeal Kolts Hatch (AS 79) will celebrate 36 years in July as a registered
nurse with Intermountain Healthcare.

Mariellen Ferrin Sereno (AS 79, BS 84) will complete her observe 27th years
as a registered nurse practitioner for Anaheim Regional Medical Center this

August.; during that time sheSereno has also served as its the centers
stroke program coordinator.

Jean Millar (AS 81, BS 84) reached her 5-year anniversary as the director of
the Wwomen and Cchildrens Sservices at the McKay-Dee Hospital Center.

Jeannie Brewer (AS 82) just completed 33 years as a region mother/baby at

Intermountain Healthcare as an education consultant for mothers and babies
for Intermountain Healthcare in the Salt Lake area.

Holly T. Richardson (AS 84), a past BYU College of Nursing adjunct faculty
member for seven years, has led her communications and political consulting
company for 15 years. In her spare time, she helps women prepare and run
for political office.

Sandra Stoker (BS 91) has completed four years as director of the advanced
heart failure programs for Intermountain Medical Center.

Emily I. Volk (BS 99) recently became the director of nursing for Piedmont
Health Services in Carrboro, North Carolina. Before this position, she also
served as a its nurse manager and as a triage nurse for Piedmont Health
Services.

David R. Hurst (BS 00) is celebrating six years as nursing director of adult
services at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He received an MBA from
the University of Utah in health services administration in 2005.

Ryan McDonald (BS 01) is a certified registered nurse anesthetist for three
organizations in the Yakima, Washington area: Narrows Anesthesia, Cascade
Neurosurgical Associates, and Utili-TIVAiva Applications (has been its chief
since 2009).

Two BYU College of Nursing assistant teaching professors are adding mission nurse to their
curriculum vitae: Debra Edmunds (BS 03) is leaving in July for the Fiji Suva Mission and will
be its mission nurse for the next year; Debra K. Wing (BS 82) will return in May from serving
a year in the Seoul Korea Mission as a military relations representative and mission nurse.

Sharman Hartley Seely (BS 05) is a registered nurse in the Sacramento,

California area and is a freelance American Sign Language Interpreter
focusing on the field of education, medicine, and the sciences.

Jennifer Hamilton (BS 07) works as an assistant professor (clinical) at the

University of Utah College of Nursing.

Jacob Nunnery (BS 08) now leads as a CV-ICU RN at St. Alphonsus Regional
Medical Center in Boise, Idaho. Previously, he worked for five years at
Houston Northwest Medical Center (three years in tele/step-down and two
years in SICU).
