Frequently Asked Questions

What is Foundation Learning?

Foundation Learning is an afterschool supplemental program that offers additional math and
reading curriculum for pre-K through high school students who need remedial or enrichment
instruction.
Will the program help my child learn concepts he/she may have missed in previous
grades?
Yes, a pre-entry test is given to your child to determine the best level he should start within the
program. If the results suggest that your child should start below grade level to fill in gaps, then
an individualized lesson plan will be created to get him to grade level material.
What grades and programs Foundation Learning cover?
Students study reading levels from phonics to 7 th grade and math levels from counting to prealgebra. If your child is a high school student and need remedial instruction to improve their
foundation to handle high school math and/or reading, they can also benefit from Foundation
Learnings program.
How often will my child attend Foundation Learning?
Students attend Foundation Learning two times per week (Tuesday and Thursday). Your child will
be at the center for approximately 45 minutes, if enrolled in one subject, or approximately 90
minutes if enrolled in math and reading per class period.
Will my child be assigned homework?
Yes, your student will be required to complete assigned homework 3-4 days at home. The
benefits of students completing work on a daily basis will increase discipline, accelerate their
progress through the curriculum, and increase retention of concept. To manage homework, the
number of days homework will be assigned is determined by the parent and students schedule.
Because lesson plans are individualized and each student moves at a pace that is appropriate for
them, the more days per week assignments are completed, the fast they will progress.
Will my child learn in a one-on-one or in a group setting?
As your child learns new concepts, one-on-one instruction will be provided, if needed. However,
to foster independent learning, as students are completing assignments to improve learned
concepts, they will work on their assignments independently. Repetition and manipulatives will
be used to improve understanding of concepts.
Does Foundation Learning follow the local school curriculum?

Foundation Learnings goal for every student is to develop a discipline and focus and that allow
each student to perform math and/or reading above grade level. Foundation Learnings
curriculum is in alignment with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), which has been
adapted by the State of Georgia and Gwinnett County. To achieve above grade level study, the
student will follow Foundation Learnings curriculum.
How long is the program?
The length of time students attend Foundation Learning varies. It depends on the goals of the
student and parents and whether a student is enrolled for remedial or enrichment purposes.
Since each student progresses at their own pace, length of time for attendance can vary from 6
months to longer.
Does Foundation Learning provide test preparation?
While Foundation does not provide specific test preparation, there is a CRCT component in each
grade level to expose students to CRCT math and reading questions throughout the year.
