MarketResearch
UnderstandingyourTarget
Audience

Whatismarketresearch?Asa
business major, this phrase is
heard and used often, but what
doesitreallymean?
Furthermore,howcanIpre-
sent it in a way that doesnt
make it just another phrase of
words that is thrown into the
puzzling array of marketing
vocabulary?
Afterresearchingthemean-
ing of market research, I have
narrowed the concept down to
threemainpoints:

Market research is doing

research on your market
.
Researching the demographics
and lifestyles of the market for
your product/service can help to
refine the audience that you
wouldliketofocuson.

Market research is a process

.
Analyzing surveys, observations,
or buying patterns can help you
better grasp who your target
audienceis.

Market research has a

purpose
. That purpose is to
identify and understand the
attitudes and behaviors of your
targetaudienceandsuccessfully

5. During the inception of the
business, Tesla outsourced more
thanhalfofthemanufacturing.
In 2008, the government had
agreed to loan the company $465
million. However, Musk did not
have afactorytoproducetheirnew
model, the Roadster. In order to
keepupwithdemand,Muskhadto
assemble each car individually ina
garagebehindtheshowroom.
6. Teslas stockpriceshaverisen
over 600% since the beginning of
2013.
Teslas market cap is about $30
million, which ismorethan50%of
the value of GM. However, GM is
expected to sell 300 times the
amount of cars that Tesla is
expectedtosell.
7. Musk is planning to build a
factory to manufacture batteries
forTeslasautomobiles.
In order to make the newest
model at a decent price, Musk
would have to create a plant with
the ability tomanufacture500,000
lithium-ion battery packs per year,
which is equal to what the entire
world is producing at this time.
Theexpectedcostis$5billion.
8.In2008,just7yearsago,Tesla
wasatriskofbankruptcy.
The costs to manufacture the
cars were greater than the profit.
There were product delays and
infighting; these setbacks pushed
tocompanytotryevenharder.
9. Teslas global influence on
automakers.
Tesla founded the electric-car
battery startup, and made adealin
2009 to supply them to a German
automaker.Thisledtopartner-
ships to build the electric batteries
and competitiveness in theelectric
car industry. In 2007, Tesla helped
GMs Chevy Volt get the green
light.

10. Tesla Motors is now able to

establishdirectsalesinNewJersey!
OnMarch11,2014,Gov.Christie
signed a bill stating that Tesla is
now able to sell cars directly to
customers in NewJersey.Teslastill

Tesla Motors is a company
whose stock values and profits are
increasing day-by-day. With
interest in electric cars increasing,
one could only expect that this
streak of wealth will continue for
Tesla and Musk. Well soon see
how Musk will continue to keep
Teslaprofitable.
