Design Brief

Background
Our school campus is next door to the hospital. There are many children over there that have to stay in
hospital for a long time. We are going to make them toys to cheer them up.

Task
Working in groups of 2 or 3, plan, draw and make a moving toy that is suitable for children to use in
hospital.
Once your moving toy is completed, another group will test it.
We will then deliver them to the children in hospital.

Criteria
Your toy must

move by pushing or pulling

be suitable for children 6 - 8 years old

be suitable to use in a hospital

Materials
The teacher will provide (others can be negotiated)

a variety of recycled plastic containers,

cardboard boxes and cans

plastic coated wire

string

plastic straws

plastic bottle lids

wooden skewers

split pins
