I got my first job when I was eighteen after I managed to convince my parents to
allow me to earn some pocket money. I hear that a company in the building
where my sister worked needed a temporary clerk. I phoned a companys office
for an interview. I was ask to report to the office the next morning. Never
having attended an interview before, I took pains to make a better impression.
Next morning, after anyone had woken up, I sneaked out in my best clothes. I
did not want to be teased about mine appearance. I walked into the office at 8.50
a.m.to be on time from the interview. After I had told the receptionist who I was
so why I was there, she pointed to a door. She said I could start work today and
that my desk was in the room. Greatly puzzled, I asked her about the interviews I
was supposed to attend. She explained that I was to be here for only a month.
Then, she told me smiling to wear shoes the next day. I looked down and was
stunned for moment I had rushed off in my slippers! From then onwards, I made
sure I was not wearing, slippers whenever I leave my house for appointment.
