Welcome!to!Art!!In!order!to!have!a!pleasant!and!productive!class,!certain!procedures!must!be!
followed.!We!all!do!better!work!when!we!know!what!is!expected!of!us.!!

COURSE$DESCRIPTION!
This!class!is!a!general,!broad!based,!art!course.!It!is!intended!to!involve!all!students,!at!their!own!
level,!in!a!hands!on!setting.!Students!will!work!with!a!variety!of!art!mediums,!both!two!and!
threeCdimensional.!Art!media!and!content!covered!in!this!class!are!listed!below.!!

Many!lessons!will!incorporate!Art!history!through!the!study!of!Artists,!Art!Styles!or!the!Art!of!
Other!Cultures.!Art!Criticism!and!the!development!of!an!Art!Vocabulary!are!covered!at!an!
introductory!level!in!this!class.!!

CLASSROOM$GUIDELINES:$
A) Arrive!to!class!on!time.!One!late!is!a!warning,!two!lates!is!a!detention!with!Mr.!Modesto,!and!
three!lates!equals!a!cut,!which!leads!to!a!referral.!!
B) There!are!NO#cell#phones#in#class.!If!you!forget,!I!will!give!you!a!warning.!A!second!
occurrence!will!result!in!handing!in!your!phone!to!me!until!further!notice.!!
C) When!the!bell!rings!at!the!end!of!class,!you!are!NOT!to!leave.!The!bell!does!not!dismiss!you.!

D) Complete!all!projects.!(Unexcused!late!work!will!lose!points!in!grading.)!
E) Come!to!extraChelp!to!make!up!late!or!missed!work.!!
F) Stealing!art!materials!is!impermissible.!If!you!are!caught,!I!will!give!you!a!warning.!A!second!
occurrence!will!result!in!you!having!to!bring!in!your!own!art!supplies!until!further!notice.!!
G) Listen!and!follow!directions!the!first!time!they!are!given.!!
H) Show!respect!for!your!work,!other!students!and!their!work,!at!all!times.!!
I) Attendance!and!participation!are!required!in!this!class.!Please!make!sure!you!get!involved!in!
what!we!do.!!
J) There!is!to!be!no!eating!in!the!classroom.!The!only!acceptable!drink!is!water.!!
K) In!order!to!create!a!productive!classroom!environment,!it!is!important!that!we!all!remain!
considerate!while!someone!else!is!talking.!If!you!have!an!opinion,!question!or!comment,!
please!raise!your!hand!and!wait!to!be!recognized.!Inappropriate!behavior!will!lead!to!a!phone!

GRADING$POLICY$
Class!work!will!be!evaluated!periodically!through!class!critiques!and!individual!discussion!as!the!
work!progresses.!!You!will!receive!a!letter!grade!after!finishing!each!assignment.!Each!grade!will!
reflect! your! overall! skills! and! achievement! up! to! that! point! in! the! quarter.! ! Please! feel! free! to!
discuss!your!grades!or!progress!with!me!at!anytime!during!the!semester.!

Grading!Criteria:!
The!grade!for!drawings!will!be!determined!by!the!following!criteria:!
1. Understanding!and!application!of!art!concepts!for!each!project.!
2. Skills!development.!!
3. Class!participation!and!effort!(listening!and!following!directions,!proper!use!and!care!of!
art!materials,!setCup!&!cleanCup,!following!rules,!being!helpful!and!kind!to!all!classmates.)!
!
A!grade!of!A!=!Excellent!with!all!the!criteria!accomplished.!!AC!means!most!of!the!criteria!was!met!
but! could! fineCtune! some! aspect! of! assignment! criteria! B+! =! very! good,! B=! Good,! C+! =! above!
average!C!=!Fair,!D!=!Unsatisfactory!attempt!to!meet!the!grading!criteria!and!F!=!Failure!to!do!the!
work!required.!!Unsatisfactory!artwork!can!be!reworked!and!resubmitted!for!a!higher!grade,!but!
only! if! the! original! drawing(s)! was! presented! on! time.! Reworked! artwork! must! be! resubmitted!
within!two!weeks!after!the!original!work!was!returned!to!the!student.!
