Math In Topic 13, students have been studying

shapes, measuring volume, and surface area. We will
have a Topic 13 test on Monday.
Reading Our next story is The Unsinkable Wreck
of the RMS Titanic. We will be stretching this story
out for two weeks. Students will be doing various
reading activities. We will be reading first hand accounts of people on the Titanic. Students will be given
a ticket to the Titanic. They will research a passenger
to find out about them and ultimately if they survived
or not. This is always an interesting study for the students. I hope they enjoy it!
GrammarWe will be studying subject pronouns
Students will continue to work on their
state reports. I have given them the due date of February 26th for a due date.
Spelling The spelling words this week are related
words. Test scores have really dropped with the last
two tests. Study! Study! Study!
Social Studies We have started to study the Revolutionary War. This is an interesting unit and we use
many activities and videos to enhance the understanding of this time in history.
Science We are studying about animals and adaptations they have in order to survive. A trading card extra credit has been offered.

Note From the Teacher:

ISTEP is around the corner. It is really important to have your student come to school, be well rested,
and eat breakfast. We will be preparing students the best we can and we are even planning pep rally and some
fun activities to keep students motivated. Also if you are willing to send in a healthy snack, the class would really appreciate it. Thanks for your help.
5th grade students participate in the DARE program. To complete and graduate from this program students must write an essay. They will be given time in class, but if they need extra they may work on it at home.
