announcementanddocumentary.Thestudentwilldemonstrateanunderstandingof
howmediahasaffectedsocietyandtheeffectsofvisualcommunicationmedia.
Studentswillunderstandwhyastoryboardisneededtoproduceafilm,demonstrate
knowledgeofthestoryboardprocess,andanalyzeothersstoryboardforfeedback.
Studentswillapplyartisticprocessesandskillstocreateastoryboardfortheir
documentary,aswellasconductingandfilmingaPSA.Studentswilllearnhowto
properlygiveaninterview,aswellashowtoutilizeGoogleFormstosendoutquestions
forcharteredresponses.Last,studentswillmasterusingiMovieandGarageBandto
createtheirowndocumentary.
Expectedstudentaudiencewillbe6ththrough

studentslookingforenrichment.Studentsare6th,7th,and8thgradestudents.Wehave
aratioof53%maleand47%female.
StudentcanparticipateinaGoogleHangoutwithmyselfeveryTuesdayat6:30
PM.Additionalhangoutscanbearrangedduringofficehours.Studentwillparticipate
ingroupGoogleHangoutwithentireclasseveryThursdayat6:30PM.Blogsmustbe
updatedweekly(byFridayat6:00PM)andreflectadequatelearningtowardsgoalsset
forth.StoryboardwillbepostedonGoogleClassroomandfeedbackgiventhroughthe
shareddocument.DiscussionpostwillbeheldinGoogleClassroomandstudentsmust

documentaryboardforfeedbackfromteacherandpeers.
Studentswillparticipateinanintroductionpostwith3truthsandalie.Theother
studentsmusttrytodeterminewhicharetrue(everyonemustreplytoeachpost).We
willmeettogetherinaGoogleHangoutforagroupmeetingthefirstThursdayofthe
course.Wewilldiscussthecourse,anyquestionsthatarisefromthecalendar,syllabus,
andtheintroductionpost.Studentswillrevealtheirtruthsandlie.
Studentswillberequiredtopostaweeklyblogontheschoolwebsitetodiscuss
whattheyhavelearnedandtheirprocessworkingthroughthestandards.Students
mustmaintainprofessionalcommunicationwhentalkingwithotherstudents.Allwork
mustbeoriginal,andcopyrightlawfollowed.Ourfirstlessonwilldiscussfairusepolicy
andcopyrightlaws.Absolutelynocriticismandbullyingwillbeallowed.Whenreplying
topeers,studentsmustspeakrespectfully.
StudentswilleachhaveaMacBookProwiththesoftwareinstalledbyDarlington
School.Studentswillneedavideocamera,whichcanbetheirphoneorcheckedoutat
theschool.TheywillneedaninternetconnectionandtheirschoolGoogleAccount.
Ifatechnicalproblemoccursduringtheschoolday,studentswillcontactmyself
oroneofthemembersoftheITdepartment.Forafterhourtechnicalproblems,theycan
refertothe
studenthandbook
,oremailmeandletmeknow.
Assessmentsinclude:Blogpost,discussionpostwithfeedback,quizzes,Google
Docassignments,aVoiceThread,andthefinaldocumentary.Studentswillalsohavea

formativeassessmentattheendofUnitOne.Assessmentsincludeapplying,analyzing,
evaluating,andcreatingtocovercognitiveandactivelearning.Eachactivityhas
differentiation,withavarietyofwaystocompletetheassignment.
IwillworkwiththeLearningCenteratDarlingtontoseewhatstudentsneed
additionalhelpandwhatstrategiesworkforhim.StudentswithlimitedEnglish
proficiencyorareadinglevelbelow6
