The Course:

Photography is a broad course built around theme based projects. You will
build on your creative skills as well as your practical, analytical and
experimental capabilities. Your study of the work of others will develop your
understanding and your ability to communicate and express your ideas.

Coursework:

There are two compulsory units of work to be completed through the duration
of the course:
Unit 1: Portfolio of Work (60% of final grade)
o The Portfolio of Work contains a selection of work from the study of three
coursework projects which explore digital and traditional photography, ICT
manipulation, studio photography, photo-journalism and photo-collage.
Unit 2: Externally Set Task (40% of final grade)
o The Externally Set Task asks candidates to give a personal response to a
starting point provided by the exam board. There is an unlimited preparation
time which culminates in 10 hours of unaided sustained focused study.

mindmaps etc

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will I be asked to do homework?


Yes, you will be expected to complete class work or given tasks to do to
support your coursework.
What will it be?
Anything from sticking in to researching artists/photographers.
Is there an exam?
For GCSE there is a practical 10 hour assessment. During the 10 hours you
will make something you have designed during your lessons- unaided by
the teacher!
Does all my coursework count towards my final grade?
Yes, we intend for you to use all of your work for assessment- so it all has
to be the best you can make it!
Will I need my own equipment?
Yes and no, you will be expected to bring a pencil, rubber, sharpener to
lessons (a camera if you do photo) although we will provide specialist
equipment for you to use. Having your own is always a benefit!
