This lesson was all about applying the strategies they learned in the first
two lesson to word problems that are related to real world problems the
students might face. I stated my lesson objective as The third grade students
will apply strategies learned to solve real world problems by using bar
models. The students had a packet of real world problems they were given
class time to complete. The packet was worth 10 points and there were 21
students. Seven students scored a 90% or above, six students received an 80%,
four students received a 70%, two students received a 60%, and two students
received a 50% or below. The class average for this packet was 162/210 or a
77%.
Remediation Plan
I was a little surprised by these scores, I thought the students would have
done a lot better. For this packet, I would plan to remediate any of the students
who received a 70% or below, however, since so many students fell under this
score, I would do another review day with the students. They would be broken
up into different groups based on their ability and I would have them working
with manipulatives (play money) to help them figure out real world problems.
To test to see how well they approving after this remediation day, I would
have them complete another worksheet that didnt involve bar models but that
did require them to show me which strategy they were using.

What could I do to improve my lesson for next time?
I need to be better prepared for bar models. I should have created the bars ahead
of time so I knew what mistakes to look for from the students.
How was I with time management and classroom behavior?
Timing was pretty good today and the student behavior was AWESOME.
What was one part of my lesson that went well?
I need to better prepare my lesson next time.
