A Bill to Allow Nominations from Senators for the Senate

Executive Committee

Whereas, the Constitution of the Student Government Association states in

Article II Section 4b that the Vice President shall have the duty: To appoint the
Senate Executive Officers including the Senate Chair, Senate Parliamentarian,
Senate Secretary, and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms and
Whereas, the Student Senate Bylaws state in Article II Section 4b The
membership of the Senate Executive Committee shall consist of the President of
the Senate, the Senate Chair, the Secretary, the Sergeant-at-Arms, and the
Parliamentarian, and two lobbyists to be appointed from the body of the Senate
by the President of the Senate and
Whereas, the Student Senate Bylaws state in Article II Section 4b(ii) These
appointments must be approved by a majority of the number present at a Student
Senate meeting, provided a quorum is met and
Whereas, the Student Senate is a democratic body that should have the right to
nominate its own leadership, and

Whereas, Student Senators should have the right to nominate their fellow
Senators to the Senate Executive Committee, and
Be it hereby resolved, the Constitution of the Student Government Association
Article II Section 4b is amended to read: To nominate the Senate Executive
Officers including the Senate Chair, Senate Parliamentarian, Senate Secretary,
and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms. Nominations can also be made by a Student
Senator. and
Be it hereby resolved, the Constitution of the Student Government Association
Article II Section 4b(ii) is amended to read: These nominations must be
approved by a majority of the number present at a Student Senate meeting,
provided a quorum is met. and
Be it hereby resolved, the Student Senate Bylaws Article II Section 1 is amended
to read: The membership of the Senate Executive Committee shall consist of the
President of the Senate, the Senate Chair, the Secretary, the Sergeant-at-Arms,
the Parliamentarian, and two Lobbyists, all who are to be nominated from the
body of the Student Senate. These nominations can be made by the President of
the Senate and by Student Senators.
