1. What is Healthy People 2020?
Healthy people 2020 is a national initiative to get all citizens in the U.S. healthier. This was
started in 2010 and it is to have overall goals throughout their lives and to make sure the
parents are going through with this too and just the students. Using lifestyle activities will
improve overall health of America and becoming active is the main idea of Healthy People 2020.
2. Explain the reasons behind recent efforts to make the promotion of
physical activity engagement a central goal for school physical
education programs.
The number one cause of death in the U.S. is heart disease. The reason for the efforts to make
the promotion of physical activity engagement a central goal for physical education programs is
having more goals to achieve them through physical education to make these physical activity
goals come to life. Another reason is working out and being active to help prevent heart
disease. Another reason is preventing kids to stay off technology and keep active. One big
reason is not enough states require PE and Health so students are not being educated
correctly. The last reason is there is a decrease in schools programs and teachers, usually
being PE teachers and classes being cut. There needs to be a constant process of keeping up
with life-long activities to stay fit.
3. Explain why efforts to raise physical fitness levels in youth have been
largely unsuccessful?
There are efforts to raise physical fitness levels in youth have been largely unsuccessful
because of the decrease in PE programs in high schools in the U.S. according to USDHHS.
Physical fitness is a short term goal for youth and needs to turn into a long term goal. Students
are not maturing with their peers and are becoming discouraged in physical activities. Also
youth are becoming too attached to their electronics, which is a huge problem trying to get them
off the couch and be active. Lastly youth are sometimes being pressured into sports and
activities and stop playing because they are held to a standard and parents apply too much
pressure and not every student likes competition.
4. Explain how physical maturity affects the physical skills of students.
Physical maturity affects the physical skills of students because at the chronological age,
children are late in becoming mature which keeps some of them behind in skill development.
Also at the skeletal age children are early maturers which isnt a bad thing because they
develope skills earlier but it puts them ahead of a lot of other students discouraging those to not
participate.
5. Explain the harmful effects that being overweight can have on the
health and well-being of a student.

Overweight students performing in class can harmfully affect a healthy student because if you
show the overweight student more attention and alter their expectations it will upset or cause
the other student to not want to try or participate. It is important to know your students and
make sure the overweight student is comfortable with the environment they are in. Never try
point them out or call them out in front of the class because that will make them feel targeted
and not want to come to class. Also always keep a positive learning environment will help those
students even though you may not know it.
6.

Discuss the impact of physical fitness and activity on academic

performance.

The impact of physical fitness and activity on academic performance is huge because there has
been many studies saying that students accel in the classroom with exercise prior to the class.
This motivates students to get active and to exercise more because they will see it help with
their studies and academic part of school.
7.

Identify safety guidelines for exercise and physical activity that should
be addressed and followed by physical education teachers.

Some safety guidelines for exercise and physical activity that should be addressed and followed
by physical education teachers is always avoiding injury or harm to the students. The
development of positive attitudes and feelings about exercise will increase. Also moderations
helps ensure the students grow up with positive feelings towards maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Lastly, avoiding heat related exercises, trying to reduce the length of the activities with dealing
with the circumstances on a daily basis.
8. Explain the rationale for assigning fitness workloads on time rather
than distance or number.
The reason for assigning fitness workloads on time rather than the distance or number is
because if you as an instructor tell one of your students to do 25 push ups, they are more likely
to fail that task you provided. A way to resolve this is ask the student is give the student the
option to do as many push ups in 30 seconds as they can. What this does is it motivates the
student to attempt the activity you provided and there is no embarrassment of how many they
completed. The point of this rationale isnt to see how fit your student is, it is more to see how
much effort they put towards the activity so they become more comfortable with your learning
environment.
