Creatine Supplement
Dai H. Le
Abstract:
Many athletes, bodybuilders, and others used synthetic creatine supplement to
gain muscle, mass, and strength. Not many may know, but 95% of the human bodys
creatine is located in the skeletal muscle and cannot produce enough creatine from the
food we obtained daily, such as meats and fish. It is a reason to why many companies
took advantage this million-dollar idea and manufactured synthetic creatine to give the
gym goers the supplement they need in their trainings. Currently, there are a lot of
creatine supplements in the market, almost too many for one is able to choose. Ergo, the
purpose of this project is to identify between a selections of creatine products to give the
consumer, like myself, the true facts of what he or she is actually consumed.
Designs/Methods:
1) Determining the Melting Point:
The purpose of determining the melting point is to find out the purity of the
creatine supplement. The initial melting point of pure creatine is 255 Celsius.
a) Draw a straight line across the TLC (along the silica gel).
b) Take a spotter and dip it into the reaction flask, then put a spot in the middle of
the line.
c) Pour a small amount of solvent (water) into the developing chamber.
d) Submerge the TLC plate into the chamber and close the lid.
e) Observer for mobility.
3) Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry:
The method of GC-Mass Spectrometry is to separate the gas phase and stationary
phase. The idea of this process is to measure the quantitative and the qualitative
amount of the separated components in the creatine supplements.
