Career Situation/Problem to Analyze: Efficiency and Profitability
Strengths: (internal positive factors) Strengths describe the positive
attributes, tangible and intangible of your organization. These are within your
control.
Questions to consider: What is it you do really well? What resources (talent/
technology/ equipment) do you have that other dont?

Weaknesses: (internal, negative factors) Weaknesses are aspects of your


business that detracts from the value you offer or place you at a
competitive disadvantage.
What is it that you lack? (Resources, specific talent, technology,
geography?) What can you improve on?

I can provide a clean and safe facility that employs highly trained instructors
and coaches who utilize innovative equipment and coaching methods to achieve
physical and cognitive results.
Opportunities: (external, positive factors) Opportunities are external
attractive factors that represent reasons for you your business to exist and
prosper.

Because of water/chemical corrosion, equipment must be replaced


annually, if not monthly. Though not impossible, it his difficult to hire
knowledgeable and skilled staff. The most feasible location for an aquatic
facility is in a rural community that harbors high school, college and
elementary schooling.
Threats: (external, negative factors) Threats are external factors beyond
your control that could put your business/organization at risk. You may
benefit from having a contingency plan for them.

What is it that people are saying about you/organization in the marketplace?


Are there opportunities to align with partners in the marketplace? Is there
beneficial legislation or any funding you can pursue?

What are your competitors doing better than you? Have consumers
buying/fitness habits changed? What other factors are out of your
control?

The aquatic realm has a large market that spans every demographic, from
infants to active older adults and everything in-between. There are many
organizations and clubs that an aquatic facility can partner with (i.e. local swim
clubs, masters teams, high schools, colleges, PT firms, afterschool
camps/programs, law enforcement/military.

Competition may manifest itself in the form of an architectural nicer


facility in a more accessible location. A competitor may also boast a staff of
coaches and trainers that hold higher levels of training and job knowledge
than my current staff. Even though emergencies stemming from known
medical conditions can be prevented there is always a possibility of
cardiac/ respiratory arrest, serious injury, drownings and chemical
problems.
