Assignment Brief
Your Final Major Project (FMP) is an opportunity for you to demonstrate all the skills and
learning that underpin the professional production and execution of a media production
product. Ensure that you fulfil all the criteria to the best of your ability.
Tasks
Task 1
a) Purposes of Research
Outline the reasons why you are undertaking research for your FMP and the
importance of accurate and comprehensive research in Media Industries. Explain why
you are undertaking research for (b)-(f).
Please link your research to your proposal, clearly explaining the evolution of ideas
that your research triggered before you arrived at your final proposed idea.
b) Media texts
Show how your script, storyboard or shot list with their mise-en-scene, style of
shooting, characterization and treatment accord with audience expectations of your
chosen genre. What are the conventions of your genre and contrast your own generic
treatment with that of a parallel text. Are there other genres that are partly illustrated
within your own treatment?
c) Narrative structure
Illustrate how your chosen narrative structure follows a pattern that is familiar to the
audience.
d) Representation and diversity
In what ways have you used stereotypes to characterize your dramatic or
documentary forms? Why are certain groups not represented in your narrative?
e) Legal and ethical.
What issues of copyright are there in your production? Which regulations and codes
apply to your production? (Research Broadcasting Act and Ofcom)
f) Audience and marketing.
Define your audience and their expectations. What attributes of your FMP would
appeal and why (resonance). How would you market your FMP?
Please include Primary research which will link to proposal.
Task 2
a) Ideas Origination
Develop Your FMP project ideas in whichever format is appropriate. Include notes,
sketches mind-maps, mood boards etc.
b) Proposal
Write and submit your initial proposal and any subsequent change to the document
that has been approved. - link to research.
c) Paperwork
Develop and submit a comprehensive Production folder including all relevant pre-,
post- and production paperwork.

d) Product
Produce and submit your completed project in the appropriate format for
