What is Chem Crafters version 2?

The main idea behind the second version of Chem
Crafters is to challenge the player with a series of real
world situations that require the crafting of chemicals
and compounds from a bank of given elements in
order to solve the problems with which they are
presented.

Chem Crafters Cont.

The players will have to craft their compounds to best
handle the problem, and will be given clues and
information about the problem.
Each level will consist of a series of problems that must
be solved in order, however, the players will be able to
craft any number of different compounds that will
determine the effectiveness of solution. Their actions
will be displayed in either a positive or negative change
to their Deficit score. Lower score is better.

More on Game play

The flow of game play is separated into steps:
First the player selects the elements they will need from the bank

(click and drag).

Then the player builds the compound(s) that will solve the problem.
Lastly the effectiveness calculation shows the change in deficit based
on the accuracy of the solution.

At any time the player may select the hint for an

adequate solution at the cost of an increase to the
deficit. Each new hint increases the amount added to
the deficit.

The player will also be able to click on a button
somewhere on the user interface in order to open a
Periodic Table of Elements for reference.

Difficulty Levels
Beginner This level consists of simpler challenges and
doesnt require directly building the compounds.

Advanced This level has harder challenges and requires

the player to build the compound in the form of a chemical
formula. This difficulty was shown in the previous example
of game play.
Na CO
2

Chemist This level is the hardest and has the most

advanced challenges and requires the player to build the
chemical compound in the form of a molecular model.
David Thomases
davidthomases.weebly.com

Alternate Beginner Difficulty

A second idea for the beginner difficulty would be to
either:
Give the player a molecular compound and ask them
to write the formula
-Or Give the player a formula and ask them to create the
molecular compound

Closing
The purpose of Chem Crafters is to provide a fun, but

challenging learning environment that allows for

people of several skill levels to engage in a learning
environment to both practice and learn chemistry
through the use of chemical compounds, elements and
chemical reactions in real world situations.
