1. Analyze the aims and negotiating roles of world leaders, the
terms and influence of the Treaty of Versailles and Woodrow
Wilsons Fourteen Points, and the causes and effects of the
United Statess rejection of the League of Nations on world
politics.

Students will be able to understand why the United States enter


the war? On what side would the US joined forces and why?
Discuss what were the motives? Economical or Democracy?
Students will be able to discuss the motives behind US entrance
into the War and how did it impacted the outcome? What were
President Woodrow Wilson 14 Points?
Introduction Provide a quick recap of the course of the war to develop a time
/ Overview setting in which students can identify what was going on at the
time of the entrance of the US.

The United States entrance into the World War marked a turning
point for the Allied. President Woodrow Wilson objective were
written in his famous papers better known as his 14 Points.
Wilsons 14 Points most important key components were: the
creation of a League of Nations to mediate conflicts among
countries, the idea of self-determination for countries to give
up their colonial powers and to spread democracy. Moreover,
upon mobilizing, the US gear its economy for war with a new
supply of labor force, women. Women became part of the
factory production of artillery and things needed for war. Unlike
the French, who used Vietnamese to work in their factories, the
US relied in its national labor force. Furthermore, the use of
propaganda in the US had a strong impact on increasing moral
at home and in soldiers enlisting in service.
Nevertheless, the US had economic motives to enter the war.
Britain and France had borrow a lot of money from the US that in
order to guarantee pay-back it must ensure the Allies victory.

President Woodrow Wilson 14 Points Handout
Pictures of the major War Leaders
Discuss among your group member what were the 14 Points all
about? Who did if favor, if any? Present your finding to the class.
There will be 14 Groups, each will be given a section to analyze.
They will share their finding with the rest of the class.
50 Minutes Class Meeting
Using a clicker, students will complete pop quizzes (may include
extra credit points) during the lecture. This is aim to be as a poll
to make sure that the students are understanding the content
discuss. Students will talk to a peer next to them explaining
what the lecture was about at the beginning of the next class
meeting. Practice writing a time line of the key events of the
war. Ex. Date the war started, major battles, major Leaders,
Russia out of the War. This is aim to for students to develop
familiarity with the chronological order of the events for a future
activity.
Students will be asked to do a 3 minute quick write as a
reflection of what the lecture was about (it could be an outline,
simple sketch, key words, etc.)
