Church Family
Thank you...
Dear Friends at Central,
My family and I want to thank everyone for the many
cards, prayers, phone calls and condolences thru the
passing of Floyd Bud Furl on January 14th. We
know he is in a better place now. Thank you to
Pastor Scott for the graveside funeral service in 6
degree weather, to Deb Mummert for her visits during Buds illness and to Brenda Geiman and the
ladies who helped with the reception. The vegetable
soup was delicious. I know that with the help of my
family, my church family and my MDO friends I will
get thru this difficult time.
In Gods Love,
Renee Furl, Jen Valentine,
Mark & Amy & Greg Schroeder

Pastor Scott baptized Michael Steven

Henes on January 24th. Pictured here
with little Michael are his parents,
Lindsay and Steven.

To our church family. A huge thank you for all of

your acts of kindness, words of kindness in beautiful
cards and most of all for attending the "Celebration
of Arts Life.
In Christian Love, Gladys Kuehn

ORGAN NEWS at CENTRAL

Over the past few months in some discussions at staff and other meetings it was suggested that perhaps I
could do an article in the newsletter and that would be a place to let you know of present and future
organ happenings, not only at Central but also organ recitals, etc. of interest in the community.
The Lenten Noontime Musical Meditation Series is off to a good start especially taking into consideration
all the weather-related obstacles that have hit our area recently.
Continuing the series we still have the following:
March 2 Helen Wingert, organist
March 9 Anita Rae Smith, harpist
March16- Valerie Merriman, pianist and Helen Wingert, organist
In an attempt to help us plan future programs in this series we are giving a questionnaire to those attending
the series. However, if you have been unable to attend for any reason but would like to have input into future
series, please contact me (Helen Wingert) for a survey sheet or just to give your verbal input.

A Gift from Libby

Central received in February 2016 a second and final bequest from the Estate of Elizabeth
Libby Reasner for $49,204. This brings the total bequest to $97,650. The money has
been placed in the Central Fund which is available to the Session to fund shortages in
yearly budgets and special programs of the church. This is a wonderful gift Libby made to
her church family.

Contributions in January
Giving slowed in January, but we are pleased to say that February, despite losing one
Sunday due to inclement weather, has rebounded and is now in line with 2015 levels.
Please remember that you are asked to maintain and/or increase, if you can, at the
same level as your giving in 2015.
Many of you are taking advantage of the auto-charges from your checking accounts,
savings accounts and credit cards. If you are interested in Centrals automated giving,
please contact Missy Igou at the Finance Office by calling 717-264-4113, ext. 109.
Thank you for your gifts to Centrals ministries.

YOUTH
GROUP

February has been fabulous!

Thanks to everyone who has helped us out in any way!
Special thanks to the Carbaugh and Marangoni families for hosting the
Super Bowl parties on February 7th!

NEWS

Our High School guys basketball team finished up their season with
a playoff game on Sunday February 21st vs. First Church of God.
Although we didnt make it to the championship, but we had a blast!

All of us are so proud of our gents! The guys are looking forward to next years season already! A million
thank yous to Chris Ott and Nick Adams for coaching!
Our Middler basketball team (coached by Don Marangoni and Danny Klink) has been in full gear as well!
The remainder of our games are: 3/5/16 @ 10am & 3/12/16 tentative tournament. It has been such a joy to
see the team grow each week!
In both basketball leagues, we are extremely grateful for the Chambersburg Rec Center that allows these
teams to happen! If you get a chance, say thanks to the staff and volunteers over there!
Project Plant a Heart:
Around our building, if you have found a red or pink heart with a scripture verse, song lyric, or personal encouragement on it, we would love to hear how it/they affected your day! Email your stories to eregan@centralonthesquare.org in order to share! You can thank our high schoolers for the extra dose of love!

Middlers Sunday School:
Big thanks to the Marangonis for being our regular teachers, and who wrote:
Weve been studying Jesus life in regard to: John the Baptist, the Sermon on the Mount, the Lords Prayer,
and the Woman accused of adultery (cast the first stone). We use sections of movies to view 10-20 minutes,
then read the gospel, and have discussion/games, etc that applies to the lesson.
Also, thanks to Sue Stahl for filling in on February 21st!
Highers Sunday School:
Big thanks to Madeline and Scott Wilson for teaching every week and who wrote:
The High School Sunday School Class has been very busy the last few week preparing a surprise for the Pancake Dinner. What kind of surprise? You'll have to show up on April 10th to find out! We'll just say that we
hope it's something that sticks with you!
We're also just about to finish up our NOOMA video series, which takes a unique look at life's challenges
and how we can approach them through Christ. Last week's lesson was about some of the dangers that can
come with success, and how to make sure we're always setting aside something to give back, both in good
times and in bad. In the same way that farmers were told to leave a corner unharvested for those less fortunate,
we talked about things we can save for others as well, such as time, money, or talents. We've had some great
discussions and a lot of fun in the process. The youth constantly impress us with their ability to understand and
relate to deep topics.

A NOTE FROM ERIN:

Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to
us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God.
2 Peter 1:3, MSG

I recently had a conversation with my Aunt about how ones personal faith changes
depending on the choices we make in regard to Christ. Our conversation got me
thinking: its really easy to go through the motions of religion without so much of a
thought or feeling. I could participate in weekly worship, go to Sunday school, show Erin Adams, Youth Leader &
Contemporary Worship Leader
up for youth group, Revive, or this weeks event, and not allow myself to be stirred
in the least; however, if I were to gain something from those happenings, something
else would be required of me something more would be required of me... Effort, perhaps? Focus, maybe?
I imagine that the avenue is unique for each individual; however, I wonder if there is one answer that applies to
all: intimacy. We read in the scripture above that a life of pleasing God requires a personal and intimate
knowledge of Him. How many of us can say that we have that? Not simply a book knowledge. Not a bunch of
personal experiences or opinions. Instead, a vulnerable, personal, intimate, deepening, widening, growing
knowledge of Him. Im challenging myself and I challenge all of us as a church family to grow in intimacy with
the Lord this month. As we seek our Savior, may we come to know His heart. Amen!

CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP:
Lent is upon us and we have enjoyed the small, meaningful inserts that the season has
brought to the 1st service. In addition to the confession boxes, we have added a Lenten Prayer of Confession, a focus word of the week (spray-painted in the front of the
room), and the Greeting Time back to the middle of worship. We would love to hear
your feedback about how these vehicles have enhanced your worship experience.

We couldnt be more sure of ourselves in thisthat you, written by Christ himself for God, are our letter of
recommendation. We wouldnt think of writing this kind of letter about ourselves. Only God can write such a letter.
His letter authorizes us to help carry out this new plan of action. The plan wasnt written out with ink on paper, with
pages and pages of legal footnotes, killing your spirit. Its written with Spirit on spirit, his life on our lives!

Update on Joy Village Kids

School Bells!
January 1st marks the beginning of the new school year
in Kenya. New books, uniforms, schools supplies and
backpacksall fifty eight of our Joy Village children head
off to school. Because of the varying ages of the children
they now attend six different schools. For most of our
children, the Joy Village offered them their first opportunity to even attend school. From pre-school to high
school we have enrolled each of these precious children
in the finest schools. Thank you to everyone who has
helped these children to attain a quality education.
