electionofnewofficers.

V)Purpose
LDRSisaleadershiporganizationdedicatedtohelpingstudentsbecometheirbestselves.
Throughvolunteerwork,leadershipexercises,networkingandresumebuilding,LDRS
membersworktogethertobuildskillsandhabitstohelpthemintheircareerandfuture.

VI)

Activities
Thisclubwillparticipateinavarietyoffundraisingandvolunteeringactivitiesfromwhichthe
proceedswillgotonumerousfoundationsandcharities.Theseeventsmayinclude,butare
notlimitedto:park/streetcleanups,schoolreadingstochildren,bookdrives,bakesales,
volunteeringathospitals,animalwelfareorganizations,soupkitchens,homelessshelters,
manorcarehomes,andhousesforfamiliesoftheill.Thisclubwillalsosponsorcareerbuilding
activitiessuchasresumewritingandinterviewskills,aswellasfosteringleadershipand
teambuildingskillsforallmembers.

MembershipRequirements
1.MembershipisopentocurrentlyenrolledPittstudentsasdefinedherein.
2.Allmembersmustacceptandcomplywithalloftherequirementsandlimitationsof
certificationasaconditionofmembership.
3.MembershipinLDRSisvoluntaryandallriskofpersonalinjury,propertydamageor
otherlossesthatoccurincidentaltomembershiporparticipationinactivitiesare
assumedsolelybythestudentorganizationand/orindividualmember(s)or
nonmemberparticipant(s).Accordingly,theUniversityofPittsburgh,itsofficersand
agentsshallnotberesponsiblenorliableforanyclaimsorcausesofactionfordamage
orlossofpropertyorpersonalinjuryofanykindornaturewhichmayariseoutoforare
incidentaltotheconductofanyorganization'sactivitiesorthatofanyindividual's
participationinanygrouprelatedactivity.itisfurtherunderstoodandagreedthatitis
theresponsibilityoftheofficersoftheorganizationtoassurethatallofthe
organization'smembersandnonmemberparticipantsinallactivitiessponsoredby
LDRSarefullyinformedandadvisedofthisASSUMPTIONOFRISK,andintheeventany
individualmemberorparticipantshouldexpressorindicatenonacceptance,the

organization'sofficersshallforbidparticipationand/ormembershipofsuchindividual.
InregardtotheorganizationmemberornonmemberparticipantAssumptionofRisk,
LDRSacknowledgesthattheUniversityrecommendsthattheorganizationmembersand
nonmemberparticipantsmakeeveryefforttoarrangefortheacquisitionofliability
insurancesufficienttoprotectallparticipantsagainstthoserisksbeingassumed.For
sportrelatedorganizations,theUniversityrecommendsthateachindividualhave
insurancesufficienttoallowforanyrisksbyparticipation,accidentorbydeficienciesin
physicalhealth.
4.Nohazingorillegaldiscriminatorycriteriaformembership,includingthoselistedin
theUniversityofPittsburgh'snondiscriminationpolicy,willbeusedasaconditionof
membershipintheorganization.Thesefactorsincluderace,color,religion,national
origin,ancestry,sex,age,maritalstatus,familialstatus,sexualorientation,gender
identityandexpression,geneticinformation,disabilityorstatusasaveteran.This
nondiscriminatorypolicywillbeappliedinamannerconsistentwiththerequirements
oftheFirstAmendmentoftheUnitedStatesConstitutionandotherlawsapplicableto
studentorganizations.

AdditionalMembershipRequirements
5.AllPittstudentsofallages,majors,andbackgroundsarewelcometojoin.
6.Membersarenotrequiredtopayduesinordertobeconsideredfullmembersof
LDRS.
7.Inordertobeconsideredanofficialvotingmember,studentsmustattendatleast
threemeetingsperacademicyear.

VIII)
MembershipProcedures
Recruitmenttakesplaceatthebeginningofeverysemester.Membersapplyby
providingtheircontactinformationduringrecruitmentviaaprovidedregistrationform.
Membersareautomaticallyapprovedoncetheyattendameeting.Membersareableto
participateinallorganizationactivities.Membersareremovedormadeinactiveifthey
donotcomplytotheguidelinesandrequirementsstatedinsectionVII.Memberscanbe
reinstatedbycontactingtheexecutiveboardinacasetocasebasis.Membersmaintain
theirmembershipbycomplyingtotheguidelinesandrequirementsstatedinsectionVII.

VotingPrivileges
VotingprivilegesarelimitedtocurrentlyenrolledPittstudentmembersingood
standingwiththeorganization.
Membersingoodstandingmaintaintheirvotingprivileges.
Votingprivilegesareacquiredbybecominganofficialmemberviaattendingthree
meetingsperyear.

Officers
Theorganizationshallhavethefollowingofficersintheexecutiveboard:president,
vicepresident,businessmanager,publicrelationschair,andsecretary.

XII) TermsofOffice
Theoriginalexecutiveboardmembersretaintheirpositionsuntilnolongerenrolledas
undergraduatesattheUniversityofPittsburgh.Executivepositionsareopentothe
generalbodymemberstoapplyfor;theyarepickedbythecurrentexecutivebody
basedupontheirqualifications,commitmentandcontributionstowardtheclub.Their
termstartsattheendofthesemesterduringwhichtheyareelected,andendsatthe
followingyearselectioncycle.Studentsmayapplyforexecutivepositionsafter
becomingofficialmembers,requirementsofwhicharestatedinsectionVII.Theirterm
beginsatthebeginningofthefallsemesteroncetheyareelectedbythegeneralbody,
andendsattheendofthatacademicschoolyear.

XIII) OfficerResponsibilitiesandDuties
Thepresidentsdutieswillincludeaidingandsupervisingthebusinessmanager,vice
president,publicrelationschair,andsecretarybyhelpingthemfulfilltheirduties.The
presidentisalsoresponsibleforoverseeingalloftheoperationsoftheorganization.The
presidentwillworkwithofficersoftheexecutiveboardtoensuretheorganization
fulfillsitspurpose.Thebusinessmanagerwilltakecareofthefinancesofthe
organizationwhichincludesmoneycominginandbeingspentbytheclub(ex.charity
money).Thebusinessmanagerwilldeterminethebudgetfortheclubandwhetheror
notsomethingiswithinthemeansofthisbudget.Heorsheisresponsiblefor
submittingfundingrequests,aswellasreportingallexpendituresandincomeofthe
clubduringeveryboardmeeting.Thepresidentandvicepresidentwillberesponsible
forfindingfundraisingopportunities,formingideas,andimplementingthesefundraising
events.Thesecretaryisinchargeoftakingminutesduringmeetingsandsendingout
correspondencestoorganizationmembersmonthly,aftermeetingsandbiweekly.He
orshewillalsobeinchargeofanypaperworkthatcomesinandoutoftheorganization.
Thepublicrelationschairwillprovidesocialcommunicationwithinthegroup.Theyare
responsibleforgettingthegrouptoclubevents,sendingoutcorrespondencestothe
groupaboutactivities,andencouragingtheirmemberstofundraiseandvolunteer.All
boardmembersmustworktogethertoplanactivitiesandeventsrunbythe
organization.Allofficersareexpectedtoattendeveryboardandgeneralbodymeeting
ontime.Ifanyboardmembersdonotfulfilltheirresponsibilitiesoutlinedabove,the
consequenceswillbeuptothediscretionofthecurrentboardandfacultyadvisorona
casetocasebasis.

XIV) ElectionofOfficers
(1)Executiveboardisnominatedthroughanapplicationprocessandischosenbythe
currentexecutiveboardmembers.(2)Allboardmembersmustbegeneralbody
membersasspecifiedinsectionVIItobeeligibleforoffice.(3)Theexecutiveboard
electiontakesplaceattheendofthespringsemesteroftheacademicyearatthefirst
boardmeetingofthelastmonth.Votesarecastbytheexecutiveboardbasedon
applicationsandcountedbythemembersoftheexecutiveboardandannounced
verballyandelectronicallyatthefirstboardmeetingofthelastmonthtotheboardand

atthefirstgeneralbodymeetingverballyofthelastmonthtothegeneralbodyand
electronicallyaftervotesarecounted.(4)Anofficercannotholdmorethanoneposition
ontheboard.

XV)

VotingPowersofOfficers
Intheeventofatie,thepresidentwillchoosebetweenthetiedmembersbasedon
eligibility.

XVI) RemovalofOfficers
Toremoveanofficer,theexecutiveboardmustvoteandifthevoteisthemajorityto
removetheofficer,theofficerwillberemoved.Intheeventofatie,thepresidentwill
decideiftheofficershouldberemoved.Thedecisionsmadewillbereviewedand
approved(ordenied)bythefacultyadvisor.Inthecaseofremoval,theofficerwillbe
replacedbyannouncingtothegeneralbodyanopeninginofficerposition,andthen
acceptingapplicationsfortheposition.Theexecutiveboardthenvotesforanewofficer
basedontheapplicationsandeligibility.

XVII)

Vacancies

Vacancieswillbefilledbyannouncingtothegeneralbodyanopeninginofficerposition,
andthenacceptingapplicationsfortheposition.Theexecutiveboardthenvotesfora
newofficerbasedontheapplicationsandeligibility.Thevacancywillbefilledforthe
remainderoftheacademicyear.

C
ommittees
Therearenocommitteepositionsorcommitteemembersrequiredforthefunctioning
ofthisclub.Clubmemberscanvolunteertoassistboardmembersforplanningand
executingevents.

XIX)
M
eetings
Theregularmeetingsarescheduledonabiweekly(everyotherweek)basis.The
presidentand/orvicepresidentisinchargeofsettingupandrunningthegeneralbody
meetings.Thepresidentand/orvicepresidentisinchargeofsettingupandrunningthe
boardmeetings.TheyareattendedbyUniversityofPittsburghstudents.Atleastone
executiveboardmembermustbepresentatameetingtoofficiallyconductandapprove
thebusinessoftheorganization.Specialmeetingscanbecalledbythepresidentand
maybeinaslittleasadaysnotice.Membersoftheexecutiveboardareresponsiblefor
leadingthegeneralbodymeetings.Thisincludesmakinganagenda,leadingdiscussions
andannouncements,andorganizingthemeetingasawhole.Theexecutiveboardalso
hasthepowertocancelmeetingsandevents.

XX)Finances
Nomoneycanenterorbetakenfromtheaccount/moneyboxwithoutthepresenceof
thebusinessmanager.Theywillalsoproposehowthemoneyshouldbespentonthe
variousplannedactivities,andthiswillbediscussedbytherestoftheexecutive

members.Fundscanonlybespentonclubpertainingaffairs.Theorganizationwillnot
maintainanoutsidebankaccountifitreceivesfundingfromSGB.

XXI)PublicationsCode
IncompliancewiththePublicationsCodeforStudentOrganizations,allthepublications
oftheorganizationwillcomplywithcurrentcopywriterlaws,bedistributedaccordingto
policiesandprocedures,refrainforexpressionsthatareconsideredobsceneorlibelous
accordingtocurrentstatute,advocateorinsightthematerialinterferenceorphysical
disruptionoftheeducationalprocessorthepeace,orderanddecorumofthecampus,
orthatadvocateorinsightimminent,lawlessactionortheviolentoverthrowofthe
governmentandidentifytheorganizationaspublisherandspecifythatthegroupisa
certifiedstudentorganizationattheUniversityofPittsburgh.

XXII)FacultyAdvisor
TheFacultyAdvisorisCherylPaulandScottHoffman.TheFacultyAdvisorwilloffer
recommendationsandfeedbacktotheExecutiveBoardasneeded.TheFaculty
Advisorisnotrequiredtoattendmeetingsorevents,butmaydosoatanytime.Input
oftheFacultyAdvisorisnotrequiredfordaytodayoperationsoftheorganization.In
theeventofadisputeamongtheExecutiveBoardmembers,orbetweenamemberof
theorganizationandanofficer(s),theFacultyAdvisorwillmediateand/orinterveneto
makeafinaldecision.TheExecutiveBoardwillmeetwiththeFacultyAdvisoratleast
oncepersemester(FallandSpring)andinadditiontothesemeetingswillregularly
updatetheFacultyAdvisoronallactivitiesanddecisionmakingregardingthe
organization.TheFacultyAdvisorwillremaininplaceuntilwhichtimehe/sheeither
decidestoresignorisaskedtoresignbyaunanimousvoteofTheExecutiveBoard.In
theeventoftheFacultyAdvisor'sresignation,he/shewillremaininplaceeitheruntil
theendofagivensemesteroruntilanewFacultyAdvisorisinplace,whichevercomes
first.

XXIII)ExternalAffiliations
Noexternalaffiliationsarerequired.

XXIV)ByLaws
Ifthereareanyissueswithintheboard,theymustbereportedassoonaspossibleto
theotherboardmembers.AllIdeaswillbeheard,buttheexecutiveboardmakesthe
finaldecisionastowhetherornottheideawillbeused.Allofficersareexpectedto
attendeveryboardandgeneralbodymeetingontime.

XXV)Amendments
Inordertoamendtheconstitution,theamendmentmustbeproposedtotheentire
executiveboardatanofficermeeting.Avoteiscastandifitrulesinthemajoritysfavor,
theamendmentispassed.Allexecutiveboardmembersmustbepresentwhenthe
amendmentisputinplaceintotheconstitution.Oncethechangehasbeenamendedto
theofficialdocument,itcanbetakenasanofficialruleoftheclub.
