Bring the students to the centre of the field with their balls.
Briefly state the topic of the lesson and its importance in the
game of soccer.
2) Warm-up
Goal dribble (5 minutes)
The students should dribble around freely, and try to pass their
ball between the cones
After a couple minutes of this, stop the group (use a verbal cue
such as freeze!)
Now, time 1 minute. Tell the students to count how many goal
they passed their ball through.
2) Main Activity
Pass and Follow (5 minutes)
Bring the group back into the centre on the field and review
some basic passing principles
Remind them to lock their ankle, point their toe and contact the
ball with their instep
A player in one line passes to their group mate on the other line,
then runs and lines up behind their other group mate. The player
that received the ball then passes to their group mate on the
opposite line, and runs to join them. The progression continues
(about 3 minutes).
Move both lines back (so that they are about 15m apart) have
the students try the pass and follow from this position.
Each group has their own ball. Students may run anywhere on
half of the field, passing to their team mates.
While the students are getting water, set up a grid with four
different sections. When the students return, give them each a
cone tell them which grid to go to (ie: blue team here, yellow
team here etc) and instruct them to put a soccer ball on top of
their cone at the back of their teams grid (see diagram).
Bring the students back to the centre circle to explain the activity
Each team has their own grid and set of cones to defend
The object of the game is to be the last team standing (ie: with
at least one ball still balanced on top of a cone) when all the other
teams have been eliminated
Balls that have been knocked off of cones many be used to knock
other balls off
Round #1: All players on all teams must stay in their grids
Round #2: 1 player at a time from each team may enter the
grids of the other teams
Round #3: 2 players at a times from each team may enter the
grids of the other teams
Round #4: All players from all teams may move wherever they
want in the area (the grids are ignored)
Set up 3 regular soccer fields with cones for goals (make the
fields about 40m15m, with goals about 4m wide)
Bring the students back to the centre circle to split them into 6
teams of 4
4) Cool-down (5 minutes)
