timeofhisdeathhewasChancellor,UniversityofAllahabad(sinceApril17,2006),

successesoftheAnandmodelinotherpartsofIndia,Mr.Kurienagreedbutwasunfazed
byit,contestingitsoundly.Isthedemocraticformofgovernmentsuccessfulinallpartsof
India?Butthesolutiontotheproblemsofdemocracyismoredemocracy.Therecanbeno
democracyinIndiaunlessyouerectapluralityofdemocraticstructurestounderpin
democracy,likethevillagecooperativewhichisapeoplesinstitution.
Ifin2012,Indiaisthelargestproducerofmilkintheworld,contributingsixpercentto
thenationalGDPand26percenttotheagriculturalGDP,itisVergheseKurien,withhis
