Stay in your desks! Questions: Try to work it out on your own,
quietly ask your elbow-partners, and if those two options do not
work, then you can raise your hand for me to help you.
Quick review from last class: What are the three
important parts of a story? The beginning, the middle, and
the end. What are we introduced to in the beginning of a
story? Characters and setting. What happens in the middle
of a story? The characters are faced with a problem. What
happens in the end of a story? The characters find a

solution to the problem.

Is there anyone who wants to share what they have of their
story so far? Allow a few students to share.
Today you are going to finish the good copy of your
story! Walk the students through the instructions on the
SMART Board (the title page and the three story pages). Send 4
students to the red table to work with Mrs. Conrad!
Body
Give students the opportunity to finish their Alphabet stories.
Students must finish the writing before moving on to the
illustrations.
Assessment: Observation: Observe the level of student
progress. All students should finish their stories today.
Differentiation: Students who are struggling can work together
at the back table. Students who are struggling need only use
two story pages instead of three.
Closure
You have now completed your stories! Great job! You now know
that writing is a process that takes time and commitment.
Verbal discussion: Did you enjoy the writing process? What did
you like about the process? What were some challenges?
I am proud of all of you for working so hard and I look forward
to reading your complete stories!
Now I will put the book together and we will read it aloud in
class next week!

Students who finish early can add details to their art projects with crayons,
pencil crayons, or felt markers (add more letters in). Possibly review
technique on the board.
Students who finish their art project will receive the writing prompt activity
sheet. For this activity sheet, students may draw the picture first, and then
write a short description of what is chasing the man.

Once Upon an Alphabet Writing Part 4

This class went extremely well. As soon as I handed out the alphabet stories, students knew what
to do and went directly to work on their stories. They worked so hard the entire class; I skipped the
expectations, review, and attention grabber. They worked so well, I even let them listen to music for the
last twenty minutes or so. Most of the students finished their writing and many even finished their
illustrations! Overall, we made incredibly progress during this class. It was awesome to finally see the
culmination of all of our hard work! I made sure to have a sponge activity ready (the chase), which was
quite a hit with students and got them writing! This inspires me to create more sponge activity writing
sheets for those students who finish early.
