Overall, some things went really well integrating movement into the lesson. Many
students participated and they really enjoyed moving and dancing. They immediately became
engaged in the warm up. There were students made suggestions urging unsure students to move
where. There were gave explanations and reasoning and collaboration on why other students
were correct or incorrect. This was good way to see and hear students reasoning for choosing the
correct answer and there was the added ability to see students who may need additional support
later on in the lesson. The second part of the lesson when they sang a song went equally as well.
Students were excited to not only move but to sing as well.
The mentor teacher commented that the students seemed very engaged but there were
times that they started to get off task by talking about things that didnt apply to activity. One can
agree. Fourth graders who are told to sing, dance and move, probably should be expected to
become off task. A possibility for improvement for the next time is to explain the expectations
need to be explained clearer and consequences should be enforced if students dont participate.
These students are a hyper bunch so getting them to move for the purpose of education
was beneficial for everyone involved. There was a lot of movement on the teachers part as well.
Making sure students were participating and moving. There was a lot of speaking opportunities
on the teachers part as well. Positive phrases like, I like how you are moving. And put your
hands up higher were repeated many times.
Although overall the lesson went smoothly. There will be somethings that will be
changed for next time. It has already been stated that classroom expectations will be stated
clearly and consequences will be enforced. Maybe next time there will be more specific student
academic feedback, as very little was given in the first two assignments. This activity was
conducted with the same group as before and they never fail to give smiles and engage in the
activity.
