NYS SAFE Act Events
(as of 01/21/2016)
This table includes all cases in which at least one NYS SAFE Act charge appears at arrest, as sent to DCJS by the arresting agency, or at arraignment,
as sent to DCJS by the arraignment court, whether it is the most serious charge or an underlying charge.
When more than one NYS SAFE Act charge is present, the most serious charge is reported here.
Please note that these laws only took effect recently. There is often a lag between the time a law is effective and when arresting agencies update the
law tables used to code arrest charges when arrest information is sent to DCJS. This can result in an undercount of charges brought under newlyenacted laws.
The following is a list of NYS SAFE Act Offenses. See the New York State Penal Law and General Business Law for the definitions of these offenses.
