Germ Warfare - Working Title.

INT. DUGOUT - MORNING

It is dark. Somewhere, out in the distance, we hear the
shelling of artillery.
Outside we see a BIPLANE, under wraps.
Inside, A LAMP is turned on, and the surroundings are
illuminated. We are in a DUGOUT.
An incredibly drained looking PVT. COLLIS sits hunched,
fervently scribbling on some paper.
PVT. COLLIS - (V.O.)
My dearest wife, I trust that you
and Nathaniel are well. I do not
know how to start this letter. Only
that it must be written. I am not
to post this letter in the hopes
that should something happen to me,
it is perhaps posted on my behalf.
I'm sorry I haven't writ these past
weeks. But, it strikes me now, that
I fear this will be my last
correspondence. I put my stock in
god that If I do not see you again
in this life, then he will assure
that we meet in heaven. I am alone
now...
CUT TO:
EXT. FRONT LINE TRENCH - BEFORE
The FRONT LINE TRENCH - spanning a near infinite length each
way. Never-ending. Replete with a ramshackle lookout, and
MACHINE GUN parapet.
The soldiers:
PVT. COLLIS - COLISTIN
PVT. PEN - PENICILLIN
PVT. DOX - DOXYCYCLINE
PVT. VANCO - VANCOMYCIN
SGT. PIPER - PIPERACILLIN
PVT. COLLIS, PVT. PEN, PVT. DOX, PVT. VANCO and SGT. PIPER
are flattened along the trench wall. SGT. PIPER is gingerly
poking his head out of the trench, holding a pair of
BINOCULARS.

PVT. COLLIS (V.O.)

...PEN, DOX, VANCO and PIPER. We
were left here to hold the line,
whilst the others regrouped. But,
one of them appeared across the
fields...
SGT. PIPER sees something on the horizon of NO MAN'S LAND.
Out of the haze of the mustard gas, he sees it. A creature.
It is making its way towards the soldiers. The land
petrifies where it lays it's many 'feet'.
PIPER turns to his comrades, shakes a sleeping PVT. VANCO
awake. The others shift focus to SGT. PIPER as he moves back
to his spy.
He madly gestures towards NO MAN'S LAND. The others stare at
him, stupefied.
PVT. COLLIS (V.O.)
...PIPER. Was taken. Out, past our
limits, where the rest of us dared
not follow. We hadn't expected they
would reach us...
He is snatched away, past the barbed wire, to the precipice
of NO MAN'S LAND.
The soldiers unfurl a few rounds at the fleeing creature,
eventually felling it. It lays there, twitching. SGT. PIPER
laying somewhere underneath its bulk.
CUT TO:
EXT. FRONT LINE TRENCH - LATER
PVT. PEN is keeping lookout atop the trench. Keeping his
rifle aimed in the general direction of the creatures
corpse.
The other soldiers are snoozing.
PVT. COLLIS (V.O.)
PEN was the first to notice the
rest of them. They came for the one
we killed. He swore blind as if Old
Hob himself had come to visit. He
said, they tore at him, looked like
they were taking bits
and...absorbing them.
PVT. PEN lets off a round at the corpse.

The soldiers rouse. Meeting PEN at his lookout. They fire

blindly for a while before running out of ammo.
It's silent for a while.
Then they hear it. The bellows, a curse of a mad titan,
deep, erupting from the yellow gas on the horizon.

CUT TO:
EXT. FRONT LINE TRENCH - LATER
The gas on the horizon draws closer.
CUT TO:
EXT. FRONT LINE TRENCH - LATER
It is morning, the soldiers sleep.
PVT. PEN is nowhere to be seen.
PVT. COLLIS (V.O.)
Then it was PEN himself.
CUT TO:
EXT. NO MANS LAND - THE NEXT DAY
The remaining soldiers, PVT. COLLIS, PVT. VANCO and PVT. DOX
stand at the corpse of the creature.
The yellow haze is much closer now.
PVT. COLLIS (V.O.)
We mustered what nerve we had
remaining and went out to look for
him.
The remnants of the corpse jutted out of the soft ground. It
had been stripped bare.
Behind the tank traps and barbed wire. The ground moves.
PVT. COLLIS (V.O.)
But I fear darling, that we should
have left with the others, and face
the consequences.

A creature erupts from the land and swipes at the bones of

the smaller creature. Grabbing PVT. DOX in the process. The
others fire but it is too late.
They run.
CUT TO:
EXT. FRONT LINE TRENCH - CONTINUOUS
PVT. VANCO jumps to the MACHINE GUN and fires.
The creature takes the hits and falls, Crushing PVT. VANCO
before he can evacuate the MACHINE GUN fortification.
CUT TO:
INT. DUGOUT - NOW
PVT. COLLIS finishes his letter, wraps it in an envelope and
puts it in his pocket.
He turns the lamp off and leaves.
CUT TO:
EXT. ARTILLERY LINE - CONTINUOUS
PVT. COLLIS sneaks towards the BIPLANE. Removes it's
coverings.
CUT TO:
EXT. SKY OVER NO-MAN'S LAND - LATER
PVT. COLLIS flies the BIPLANE towards the encroaching gas.
He sees the source of the gas. A huge creature. It is an
amalgamation of the smaller creatures. Corrupting the land
with its touch.
It wheezes its foulness onto NO MAN'S LAND.
PVT. COLLIS flies to intercept the creature.
It bats at him madly, becoming enraged as PVT. COLLIS dips
and dodges through it's arms. PVT. COLLIS fires the
BIPLANE's machine guns into the beast.
It swats at him, clipping one of the BIPLANE's wings.
As the plane goes down, PVT. COLLIS flies directly into the
creatures maw, firing as he goes.

He connects, the plane explodes.

CUT TO:
EXT. NO MAN'S LAND
The wreckage of the BIPLANE lays amongst the corpse of the
creature. PVT. COLLIS emerges from the wreckage. He surveys
his surroundings.
A shadow falls over him.
FADE TO BLACK.
