Research

Energy drinks were first drunk by athletes but over time they reached the
consumer range of drinks. It started with things like Lucozade and PowerAde but
swiftly moved to the more effective drinks like red bull, monster and emerge. The
main age group that drinks energy drinks are young males aged 16-25.
Red bull
Red Bull is an energy drink sold by Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, created in
1987. In terms of market share, Red Bull is the highest-selling energy drink in the
world, with 5.387 billion cans sold in 2013. If you say to people name an energy
drink they will most likely say red bull. This is because it was one of the only
energy drinks available in the UK for quite a while.
Austrian entrepreneur Dietrich Mateschitz was inspired by an existing energy
drink named Krating Daeng, which was first invented and sold in Thailand. He
took this idea, modified the ingredients to suit the tastes of Westerners, and, in
partnership with Chaleo Yoovidhya, founded Red Bull GmbH in 1987 in
Chakkapong, Thailand.
In Thai, Daeng means red, and krating is the reddish-brown muscle-bound bovine
called a "gaur", an animal slightly larger than the bison. Red Bull is sold in a tall
and slim blue-silver can, while Krating Daeng is in a gold shorter can. The two
are different products, produced separately.
The Red Bull company slogan is "Red Bull gives you wings", and the product is
marketed through advertising, events (Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, Red Bull
Air Race, Red Bull Crashed Ice), sports team ownerships (RB Leipzig, FC Red Bull
Salzburg, Red Bull Brazil, New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Racing, Scuderia Toro
Rosso), celebrity endorsements, and music, through its record label Red Bull
Records.
Energy drinks have been associated with health risks, such as masking the
effects of intoxication when consumed with alcohol, and excessive or repeated
consumption can lead to cardiac and psychiatric conditions. However, the
European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) concluded that an adequate consumption
of Red Bull and other popular energy drinks is safe and that the amount of
caffeine in standard Red Bull cans is unlikely to interact adversely with other
typical constituents of energy drinks or with alcohol. Energy drinks have the
effects that caffeine and sugar provide, but there is no distinct evidence that the
wide variety of other ingredients have any effect.

Monster
Monster Energy is an energy drink introduced by Hansen Natural Corp. (HANS) in
April 2002.The regular flavour comes in a black can with a green tear-shaped M
logo. The company is also known for supporting many extreme sports events
such as BMX, Motocross, Speedway, skateboarding and snowboarding, as well as
eSports. In addition, Monster Energy promotes a number of music bands around
the world, like Asking Alexandria, The Word Alive, Maximum the Hormone and
Shinedown. Monster sponsor some quite big names on YouTube such as Ali-A, a
gamer.
There has been lots of controversy with monster energy as their drinks have
been reported to cause 5 deaths though there is no definitive proof the evidence
stands. There is however another link between the 5 deaths and that is that they
all had a form of heart related illness. The illness combined with a large amount
of caffeine can cause, in extreme cases, death. The drinks are not recommended
to pregnant women or people sensitive to caffeine as one 16 oz. can contains
160mg of caffeine.
