Thevolcanocausedmassive
damagetoPompeiianddestroyed
everythinginitspath.Theashkilledover
1700people.Whensomepeoplewoke
uptheysawablackcloudintheskybut
theydidntknowwhatwashappeningso
theywentbacktosleep.Thenthe
volcanoeruptedwhileeveryonewas
sleeping.

Thecoincidenceisthatthepeople
ofPompeiiwerecelebratingthefiregod
thedaybeforetheeruption.Thenthefire
godprobablygotmadatsomeonefor
celebratingincorrectly.So,hecauseda
naturaldisaster.Hewasthegodof

volcanoessohemadeMountVesuvius
eruptbecausehewasmadatsome
people.

Theashkilledmostofthepeoplein
Pompeiibygettingthemandburying
themintheirplace.Also,someofthe
peoplediedbythepoisonousgasesbut
mostofthemdiedbytheash.Alotofthe
peopleescapedtheeruption.Therewas
about10,000to20,000peoplein
Pompeiiandonly1,700peopledied,so
mostofthepeopleescaped.

Ifyoudontknowwhentheeruption
inPompeiihappened.Ithappenedin
August24th79AD.Alotofpeopledied
becausewhentheysawtheblackcloud
ofashintheairtheyjustwentbackto
sleepbecausetheyhavenever
experiencedavolcano.Thatismymajor
storyabouttheeruptionofMount
Vesuviusinpompeii.

TheVillagersDeath

Thisisabouthowmostofthe
peoplediedandhowsomeescaped.It
wasalsoreallydifficulttoescapethe
eruption.Whenthepeoplewentintothe
seasotheycanescapeitkeptpulling
thembackandthentheydiedbecauseof
theash.Somealsoweretoolatetogothe
oceanandescapesotheygotkilledbythe
gases.

Someonewasplayingagameof
gladiatorsinRomewhenhesmelt
somethingburningbuthedidntknow
whatiswassohekeptplayingthegame.
Theotherplayerssmeltitbuttheykept
playingthegame.Whenthevolcano
eruptedthepeoplewerentreadyforthe
eruption.Someofthepeoplediedbut
someofthepeoplethatwereplayingthe
gamesurvived.

Wherethepeoplewereplaying
theywerefarfromthevolcanobutthey
werestillprettyclosesotheywentthe
oppositewaythevolcanoiserupting.
Somedied,butmostsurvivedbyescaping
bysea.Itwasreallyhardtoescape
becausethetidekeptpullingthemback.
Buttheymanagedtoescape.

Theyescapedbecausetheywere
kindofaheadofthepeoplethatwere
closetothevolcano.Thepeoplethat
wereclosetothevolcanocouldntescape
becausethelavawasmovingwaytoo
fast.Alotofpeopledidsurvivebutofthe
peoplethatdidntgotburiedinash.The
peoplethatwereplayinginRomewhere
luckytohavesmelledtheburningmagma
beforehand.

EscapingTheMayhem

OneluckyvillagerescapedthehavocofPompeii.Heescapedbysea.Hewas
reallyluckytohaveescaped,becausethelavathatwasflowingwasnt
flowingslowitwasthecompleteoppositeofViscosity.Therewasalsoalot
ofpyroclasticcomingoutofthevolcano.

Theonlywaytoescapewasbyseaandthevolcanowasreallycloseto
thesea,sothat'swhymostofthepeoplediedtryingtoescapebysea.Outof
allthepeoplethatescapedtheywereluckytoescapebeforethelaharskilled

orburiedthem,likeitdiddotothewholecityofPompeii.Somehowpeople
gotpastthenueeardentewithoutdieing.Andthemostshockingpartisthat
notevensomeofthepeoplediedfromthetephrathatwascomingfromthe
volcano.Thevolcaniccraterwassobigitmadehugelaharsthatcoveredthe
city.

Whatmadeitsodifficulttoescapewasthatwhenthepeoplewent
intotheseathetidekeptbringingthemback.Mostofthepeoplecouldnt
escapebecausetheashwassohotitburnedthembeforetheycouldgetto
thesea.Andforthepeoplethatdidsurvivetheyprobablyknewthatitwas
happeningaheadoftime.Theyknewbecausetheysawtheblackcloudand
unliketheotherpeoplethatjustwentbacktosleeptheythoughtsomething
badwasgoingtohappensotheygotprepared.Sountiltheeruption
happenedtheymadeaboattoescape.Soifthepeoplethatdidntsurvive
knewitwasgoingtohappentheymighthavepreparedforit.
Theycouldhavepreventedtheeruptioniftheycelebratedcorrectlyatthe
festivalofthefiregod.Alsoiftheydidntdishonorhimitwouldnthave
happened.Theybelievediftheydishonorthegodbadthingswouldhappen
tothem.Atthefestivaltheydidritualsfortheirgods.

TheAftermath

Finally,afterallthatthisis,theaftermath.The
peopleofPompeiigotburiedintheash.Someskeletons
ofwomen,children,men,andsoldierswerefound.The
peoplethatwereburiedinashwerefoundinthesame
positionbeforetheashburiedthem.

Somescientistsfoundtheskeletonsofsoldiers.By
thewaythatwasaftertheydugupthecityofPompeii.
Itwascoveredinlaharsandittookyearstodigup.But
thebuildingswerestillingoodshapeandsurprisingly,
notburntdown.AfterPompeiiwasburiedinlaharsit
wasforgotten.ButpeoplestillvisitPompeiitothisday
afteritwasdugup.

Theytooktheskeletonsandbodiesandputthem
inamuseum.Whenitwasdugupyoucouldhaveeasily
seentheskeletonsofpeoplethatwherethere.There
wasalsopeoplesbodiesthatwerecoveredinash.
Thosewerealsoputinmuseums.

Ittookalongtimetodigup.Thecityhadalackof
airandmoisture.Nowitisareallypopularplace.Ithas
approximately2.5millionvisitorseveryyear.
