Parent Link Centre Facts

Did you know
1. Parent Link Centres began as an initiative in 2004 with 4 Centres. There are now 56
Centres serving over 188 communities. Camrose has been a Parent Link Centre since the
beginning.
2. Parent Link Centres are to provide services and programs in 5 core service areas (we call
them pillars). These include:
A) Early Learning and Care - this encompasses programs that provide experiences and
play based learning for parents and children together. Examples of this would be Fuzzy
Pickles, Messy Madness, etc.
B) Family Support - this is the pillar that speaks to supporting families. This could be a
Toy Library, counselling services, collective kitchens, and opportunities for parents to meet,
like the Indoor Playground.
C) Parent Education - examples of this would be speakers at playgroups, Triple P, or
any other gathering with parents on specific topics.
D) ASQ and ASQ-SE screening - parents are offered the ASQ and the ASQ-SE to have a
developmental check in with their child.
E) Information and Referral - The purpose of this pillar is to help connect parents with
any information they may need, whether that is a referral to another agency, a pamphlet
on a specific topic, etc.
Triple P is the evidence based program that we use for Parent Education. Triple P is used and
offered in all Parent Link Centres in Alberta.

Triple P - Tip
By Professor Matt Sanders

Are you stressed?

Sometimes it seems like the demands and stresses of parenting just

keep building up! But there are things you can do to get life back under control.

Think about what makes you feel stressed each day. If you lower these everyday stresses,
it will be easier to deal calmly with your children. It will also make it easier to cope with
those unexpected things, like illness.

For some parents it just seems like there is too much to do each day. You might need to
make some changes to your lifestyle. Talk to your partner about ways to change your
routine or share the workload.

Call on friends and family you trust if you want some extra help. Everyone needs a little
support now and then so there's no reason to feel guilty about asking them to mind the
kids or to have a coffee with you.

For other parents, the hour after everyone comes home from school and work is the most
stressful part of the day. Put a good routine in place where each person knows what they
need to do. This will help your evenings to run smoothly.

Finally, you should always take some time for yourself to relax or do something you enjoy.
Even 30 minutes a day can be enough to help you feel refreshed. Regular exercise and a
healthy lifestyle help too.

Triple P's Five Steps to Positive Parenting

"Take care of yourself as a parent" is one of Triple P's Five steps to positive parenting. Find out about
the others and how they can make parenting easier. Here are more hot parenting topics to get you

Ages and Stages Questionnaires - Why screening matters?

Screening celebrates milestones in our children
We offer the Ages and Stages Questionnaire for parents to use, to give themselves a
snapshot of their childs development. The questionnaire will only take 10 15 minutes and

in the Social Emotional area.
